EU Address for Northern Ireland?

Hi,

I am trying to find out if our product which exclusively sold in the UK (on Amazon and through retailers) requires a EU address due to it being sold in Northern Ireland. At the minute the Government website seems to run round in circles with some links pointing to anything being sold in Northern Ireland requiring a EU address, to others which stipulate that as Northern Ireland is part of the UK, no change is required. I presume if we do not have an EU address and we only sell in the UK through Amazon nothing further is required. I ask Amazon themselves and the answer wasn’t really reassuring and felt like more of a guess. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi
I live in Northern Ireland and sell on Amazon UK and in the EU. The first thing I would advise is that you sign up for the gov. website specifically for N.I. https://www.tradersupportservice.co.uk/tss?id=home . Any business based in N.I. and has an EORI number will also get an XI EORI number (XI as NI is used by another country). Trader support was given these out to business if you had signed up with them before the 14th of December - you probably can still get it but I am 100% sure. My XI EORI number is the same as my GB EORI number but has XI at the front instead of GB. You may never need to declare customs through trader support but there may be that 1 time that you will need.

I agree with you Amazon is totally useless in explaining to NI sellers what happens for them after the 1st of January - in fact at one stage I was so frustrated as I didn’t know how this would effect my business sending things to the EU from NI as we are still in the EU due to the NI protcol, I paid a firm to walk me through the process which I personally think Amazon should be doing but I have come to the conclusion they will go with the majority of sellers and not think about those who yes are still in the UK but are also still in the EU.
I have copied and pasted some of the paragraphs from the weekly emails from trader support hope these help you.

Export declarations
The paper states that the government has ‘removed the requirement for export declarations for Northern Ireland traders moving their goods from Northern Ireland to Great Britain’.

It goes on to state that export declarations will be due in ‘14 areas underpinned by specific international obligations. These concern only very limited categories of trade – such as those involving endangered species – and will have negligible implications for trade as a whole’.

Auto-enrolment window for XI-EORI closing on 14 December
Traders in Northern Ireland, or those based in GB that need to make declarations in NI, will require an EORI number starting with XI to access EU systems and continue trading from 1 January 2021.

There is less than a week left for this auto-enrolment window. To ensure that you are automatically allocated an XI EORI by HMRC enter your GB EORI into your TSS account by 14 December

For further information please visit the gov.uk EORI page .

Avail of auto-enrolment for XI-EORI until 14 December

  • still need to apply for an EORI number starting with GB can apply for both EORI numbers GB and XI at the same time via gov.uk EORI page from 1 December 2020.

What to do now if you missed XI-EORI auto-enrolment
Traders in Northern Ireland, or those based in GB that need to make declarations in NI, will require an EORI number starting with XI to access EU systems and continue trading from 1 January 2021. The auto-enrolment window for XI EORI closed on 14 December. If you did not enter your GB EORI into your TSS account by this date please follow this guidance:

If you already have an EORI number starting with GB:

  • You will need to apply for an EORI number that starts with XI. It takes 5 to 10 minutes to apply. You can do this online via https://www.gov.uk/eori .
  • You will need you EORI number starting with GB to apply. If you cannot find your number please visit https://www.gov.uk/eori for help.

If you do not have an EORI number starting with GB:

Movements requiring declarations in direct NI to GB journeys

Under the Northern Ireland Protocol, export declarations will be required for a movement of goods from a NI port to GB if they are:

  • Placed under a customs special procedure in Northern Ireland
  • In an authorised temporary storage facility
  • On a list of certain prohibited and restricted goods – a full list can be found here

More details can be found on GOV.UK here .

I hope this helps - it has been a minefield and I personally won’t feel easier until I have sent both shipments to the UK and to the EU so I have working practice of how things are panning out. I hope the links will help.
