Preparing Product Units for Fulfilment by Amazon

What options do I have for labelling individual products?

The first time you convert your listings to Fulfilled by Amazon, you will be asked if you want to send us your inventory using existing UPC or EAN barcodes for "Stickerless, Commingled Inventory" or using Amazon labels you affix to the individual units for "Labelled Inventory". In the latter case, the label must cover the original barcode completely.

Commingling your inventory allows Amazon to combine your inventory with inventory belonging to Amazon or to other sellers which is of the same type and condition. When a customer purchases a product from your inventory, we do not physically distinguish your unit from that of other sellers. This enables us to process customer orders more efficiently.

Please note that the "Stickerless, Commingled Inventory" option refers to individual product units, not the shipment; all shipments sent to our fulfilment centres require shipping labels.

Are all products suitable for Stickerless, Commingled Inventory?

No. In order for a product to qualify for Stickerless Commingled Inventory, it must meet the following criteria:

  • It must be a non-media product: books, CDs, VHS tapes and DVDs require labels.
  • The product cannot belong to any of these categories:
    • Clothing,
    • Jewellery,
    • Computer components & accessories,
    • Software,
    • Shoes,
    • Sports Memorabilia,
    • Watches,
    • Video games or
    • Grocery.
Note: Some items in other product categories might also be restricted from "Stickerless Commingled Inventory".
  • The condition of the product must be "new".
  • The product must have an EAN/UPC in barcode form for our fulfilment centres to scan when they receive it.
  • Barcodes must be placed on the outside of the product packaging, in an accessible location.
  • The EAN/UPC must map to one single ASIN. If it maps to more than one ASIN, you must label the product, even if it previously qualified as Stickerless, Commingled Inventory.

To prevent delays in processing your inventory, certain other products may not be eligible for Stickerless Commingled Inventory.

Note: Non-EU sellers are not eligible to send Stickerless Commingled Inventory to our fulfilment centres.

For more information, see Stickerless, Commingled Inventory.

How can I change my product labelling preference?

If you have previously declined the Stickerless, Commingled Inventory option for your inventory, you can still change it at any time by following these steps below:

  1. In your seller account, click the Settings tab and select Fulfilment by Amazon in the drop-down menu.
  2. In the Inventory Settings section, click Edit.
  3. Select the "Stickerless, Commingled Inventory" option.
  4. Click Update to confirm your changes.

As a result, you will no longer need to label eligible units when you prepare shipments.

If any of your products do not qualify for Stickerless, Commingled Inventory, you can still fulfil them through Fulfilment by Amazon if you print labels and affix them to each unit before sending them to our fulfilment centres.

How do I print labels for my product units?

When you create a new shipping plan through the Send/Replenish Inventory option in your Manage Inventory page, or when you work on an existing shipping plan which has not yet been completed, you will be guided through each step in the preparation of your shipment to an Amazon fulfilment centre. Whenever the inventory requires labelling, you will be able to print product labels. Product labels can also be printed through the Print Item Labels option on the Manage Inventory page. Labels will bear the product title to help you match the label to the correct product.

Blank adhesive labels can be purchased at any office supply store or on the Amazon website.

What happens if I mislabel my product units?

If we encounter mislabelled products at our fulfilment centres, we will have to re-label the products correctly to make them available for sale or return them to you. We may charge an Unplanned Service Fee if we do the labelling for you.

Can Amazon label my product units for me?

Yes. When you create a new shipping plan through your Manage Inventory page or you work on an existing shipping plan which has not yet been completed, you will be guided through the preparation of your shipment to an Amazon fulfilment centre, and you will be able to choose the Amazon Label Service for each product.

Please refer to the FBA Fees section of the Fulfilment by Amazon Pricing page on our marketing website for further details concerning fees for this service.

What else should I consider when preparing products fulfilled by Amazon?

Each unit you ship to us should be ready for us to pack and ship to your customers. For example, fragile products need to be individually packed with protective material, such as bubble wrap. Otherwise, Amazon will reserve the right to return those units to you.

Refer to the Prepare Products Help page for more information about preparation guidelines. Or if you want to use our Prep Service, see FBA Prep Service.
