The Dangerous Goods team reviews each ASIN converted to Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) within four working days, if identified as a possible dangerous good. A working day is from Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.
The identification as to whether a product is a possible dangerous good or not is mainly based on catalogue information. It is therefore imperative that you provide complete and accurate information right from listing creation or conversion to FBA, including a complete and detailed product description and a bullet list.
If the dangerous goods information that you provide is complete and correct, we will complete the review and classify your product within four working days.
However, if the information that you provided is missing, incomplete, inaccurate or otherwise conflicting, your product may be blocked for sale through Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA). If that happens, you will need to provide a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) or an exemption sheet (for batteries and battery-powered products, and for products that do not contain harmful chemicals) through the Upload dangerous goods documents tool.
Providing a complete and valid SDS when you create your FBA listing will help you to avoid delays. For more information, see Required dangerous good information and documentation.
Use the Look up an ASIN tool to check the classification status (dangerous good or non-dangerous good, or if further documentation is required from you) of your FBA ASIN.
Amazon performs regular reviews on products in our fulfilment centres that may be regulated as dangerous goods. These reviews help to ensure that shipments meet regulatory requirements and safety standards for buyers and our employees.
If your ASIN is under review, it is likely that it contains a battery, chemicals or other substances that may make your product subject to transportation or storage regulations. More information is often needed for Amazon to complete the classification of your product.
Products might also be flagged for review when changes are made to the detail page that do not align with information that was previously submitted.
Some products regulated as dangerous goods may surprise you. To learn more, see the Dangerous goods identification guide and Examples of products that may be regulated as dangerous goods.
Dangerous goods, also called hazardous materials or hazmat, are items or substances that could pose a risk to health, safety, property or the environment during handling, transportation or storage because they are flammable, pressurised, corrosive or otherwise harmful. These products are regulated for transportation or storage, or both.
To learn more, see the Dangerous goods identification guide and Examples of products that may be regulated as dangerous goods.
First, verify that you have converted/attempted to convert your product to FBA. If you have not done so, then attempt conversion. Second, check the ASIN look-up tool to verify if your ASIN went through review or not. If it is still under review, wait for the four working days (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays) for it to be completed and re-check your ASIN after the delay has passed. At this point, and if applicable, provide a manufacturer Safety Data Sheet (SDS) or an exemption sheet through the Upload dangerous good documents page (see table below for common problems with SDS).
You can upload an SDS or an exemption sheet through the Upload dangerous goods documents page. For more information, see our Introduction to Safety Data Sheets and Six Rules for Submitting Safety Data Sheets videos.
Each new document upload will be reviewed within four working days (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays). Check the ASIN look-up tool to verify if your ASIN went through review or not. If it did, and the four working day period has passed, it is likely that your SDS or exemption sheet has been rejected. Review Required dangerous good information and documentation and check your SDS for these common mistakes:
Safety Data Sheet (SDS) common mistakes | |
---|---|
1 | The product name or brand on the SDS does not exactly match the product name or brand on the detail page. |
2 | Information in the hazard identification section and the transportation section conflicts. For example, the hazard identification sections states that the product is flammable but the transportation section does not. |
3 | The SDS does not contain all 16 mandatory sections. |
4 | The product’s flash point is below 140 degrees Fahrenheit but the product is declared as not regulated, instead of flammable in the transportation section. |
5 | The SDS is either not dated or is over five years old. |
6 | An invalid document has been uploaded instead of an SDS, such as a test report or certification sheet. |
Your ASIN may be under review because:
In this case, complete and upload a battery exemption sheet.
In this case, obtain and upload a Safety Data Sheet.
The document review takes four working days (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays). Always use the Upload dangerous goods documents tool to provide SDS or exemption sheets to Amazon. If you provide your documents by contacting Seller Support, the document review will take a minimum of seven working days.
Once you have uploaded the document, you can use the Look up an ASIN tool at the top of this page to see if the dangerous goods review for your ASIN has been completed or if more information is required. If you have inventory in an Amazon fulfilment centre, we will send you the results of the review by email.
Once the review has been completed, verify that you have converted your product to FBA. If you have not done so yet, then convert your product.
When an ASIN’s classification changes – for example, from non-dangerous good to dangerous good – sellers who have inventory in an Amazon fulfilment centre will receive an email detailing the impact of the change and outlining the next steps.
To see the classification status of your ASIN, use the Look up an ASIN tool near the top of this page or search “dangerous goods” in Seller Central help.
If the dangerous goods review for your product has been completed and you disagree with the results, you can upload a new SDS or exemption sheet supporting your claim. You can also initiate a dispute using the Look up an ASIN tool.
