Listing guidelines for bladed products

Read the following guidelines to correctly list and ship permitted bladed products on the Amazon.co.uk.

  1. Selling bladed products through the seller-fulfilled channel

Due to a change in Amazon policy, effective May 13, 2022, you will be unable to sell the following articles on Amazon.co.uk as seller fulfilled orders:

    • Bladed articles which require age verification under the new Offensive Weapons Act 2019, including kitchen knives and chef’s knives. For a full list of age-restricted bladed articles, go to Weapons.

Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA): You can continue to sell eligible bladed articles through FBA, provided they are not FBA prohibited products.

  2. If you are selling bladed products on Fulfilment by Amazon, go to FBA prohibited products to know more about our bladed products policy for the Fulfilment by Amazon channel.

No bladed products can be sold through the FBA channel, apart from the four exceptions summarised in the following table.

Permitted Products Knife flag required? Category for which it needs to be listed under
(i) Razor blades permanently enclosed in a cartridge or housing with less than 2 mm of blade exposed No At seller's discretion depending on product
(ii) Knives including ordinary cutlery sets with spoons and forks No Home
(iii) Kitchen Knives and Chef’s Knives Yes Home
(iv) Folding pocket-knives with a blade no longer than three inches Yes Home, Sports, Home Improvement, Lawn and Garden

What is Age Verification on Delivery (AVD)?

AVD is where the carrier delivering the product to the customer checks that the person receiving the product is over the legal age required to purchase the products in question. This is done in two ways:

  1. A signature is required for all units dispatched via AVD by the carrier.
  2. The 'Challenge 25' methodology is applied to all deliveries.

What is the "Challenge 25" methodology?

Challenge 25 is where a person who looks below the age of 25 is challenged to provide identification to prove they are over the age of 18, and can lawfully purchase the product. This is the AVD standard we use for bladed products sold via Amazon Retail.
