    1. Enter values for the required fields, including SKU.
    2. Leave Parent SKU blank.

    3. Enter "child" in Parentage, and enter "variation" in Relationship Type.
    4. In the Variation Theme field, enter the same value that you entered for Variation Theme on the parent (value will be the same for all child items).
    5. Enter values in attribute column(s) related to the variation theme (for example, if the variation theme is flavour-size, you must enter valid values in the flavour and size fields for each child item).
    6. Enter values in other optional fields.
  6. Upload the completed inventory file:
    1. Save your inventory template as a Text (tab-delimited) (*.txt) file.
    2. On the Inventory tab, click Add Products via Upload.
    3. Validate the listings in your template using the Check My File feature and make corrections as necessary.
    4. From the drop-down menu, select the type of file to upload (e.g. "Inventory Files for non-Media Categories").
    5. Browse to locate the tab-delimited file you want to upload, then click Upload now.

How to add a New Child (variation) to an Existing Parent created by another seller?

To create a new child (variation) to an existing Parent (Product) that you have not created:

  1. Look up the product details page for an existing parent item and find its ASIN. The parent ASIN # is generally located in the Product Detail section on the detail page of any child ASIN.
  2. In your inventory template, add the new item and fill in fields exactly as if it were a child within a parent-child variation set.

Note: Be sure to match the Variation Theme field to the existing parent.

  3. Add a parent item and fill in the fields that create the parent-child relationship with the new child item and that mirror the variation theme of the child item.
  4. In the parent item:
    1. Leave Parent SKU field blank
    2. Specify the parent ASIN in the Product ID field
    3. In the Product ID Type field enter "ASIN". This will associate your new child item with the ASIN of the existing parent item.
    4. Leave Parent SKU field blank
  5. Use the ASIN in the Parent SKU field for the new child item.
  6. Validate and upload the completed inventory template.

How to reassign a child item to a new parent?

To reassign a child item to a new parent:

  1. Delete the child item (removes its relationship to the parent). You may need to wait 24 hours before you can reuse your SKU.
  2. Re-add the child item, replacing the old value in its Parent SKU field with the SKU of the new parent.
  3. Validate and upload the completed inventory template.

How do I combine two ASINs into one variation family?

  1. Download the appropriate category template for your category using the Product Classifier or Templates for Specific Categories. Refer to the Valid Values tab in the template to see what variation themes are available.
Note: If no variation theme is listed, you cannot create a product with variations in that category.

  3. On the parent item:
    1. Enter values for the required fields, including SKU. This can be any alphanumeric string of 40 characters or less, but must be unique (i.e. must not duplicate any of your other SKUs). Sellers often append "-parent" to their base SKU to remind them that this is a parent SKU.

    4. In the Variation Theme field, enter the same value that you entered for Variation Theme on the parent (value will be the same for all child items).

Can I enter a variation if there isn't a variation field?

If you do not see a variation field, this product category does not allow variations. You can create variations in most product categories on Amazon.co.uk, and variation themes differ by category. In inventory files, you use variation themes (for example, Size, Colour, SizeColour) to describe how your items vary.

To view a list of available variation themes, download the inventory file template for your item's category and refer to the Valid Values tab for a list of available variation themes.

How do I separate child ASINs into individual ASINs?

  1. Delete the child item (removes its relationship to the parent). You may need to wait 24 hours before you can reuse your SKU.
  2. Re-add the SKU but do not include/fill in any of the Variation fields.
  3. Validate and upload the completed inventory template.

Can you create a variation relationship on my behalf?
