Sodium azide is a commercial chemical used in automotive air bags and airline safety chutes and as a laboratory preservative.
Sodium azide is very acutely toxic to humans when ingested and has no available antidote or effective treatment. It is classified according to the harmonised classification and labelling of chemicals as fatal if swallowed, very toxic to aquatic life and very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.
Laboratory chemicals and/or reagents other than sodium azide, as well as chemical mixtures that may include sodium azide as an ingredient.
