Amazon email "Important information regarding books"

Has anyone else received this email today? I don’t see any listings deactivated yet but this is a worrying sign that .co.uk will follow the path of .com. :frowning:

As part of our ongoing efforts to provide a great customer experience, we are implementing additional restrictions for certain popular products in the books category. Effective immediately, you will no longer be able to sell certain popular books and your listings for these products will be removed.

Affected books will be found on the Inactive Inventory page

No I haven’t got it, but what is that all about ? - considering Amazon started out as an online bookstore .
What with this and all the deactivations because of ‘potential high pricing errors’ - madness.

That’s very worrying.

Thankfully after careful analysis of my own sales data it would appear that I only deal in unpopular books.

For a while I also sold on .com and it made up nearly half my sales. In September 2018 I received almost exactly the same email from the US site and over the subsequent months more and more listings were deactivated until I gave up on .com and returned to only selling on .co.uk. Sad to see the same happening here after doing this for 14+ years.

From the discussion boards on Amazon.com this appears to have happened to many book sellers over the last couple of years but others have inexplicably survived.

Are you listing these titles as ‘new’ or ‘used’?

Can you give us some examples of “popular books” ? I sell mostly non-fiction with a number of collectable fiction, many signed. One upon a time I used to sell mostly fiction but switched to non-fiction as I found the experience much more interesting. I have collectable signed fiction that has been sitting on my shelves for years!!

I must only sell unpopular books then as I haven’t had the e-mail!

I don’t sell any books, but got it also. Some Amazon DVD listings have been turned into “books” in some marketplaces a couple of years ago because some idiot had previously listed them with a book isbn. Sigh…

This apply to to Tarot Cards and Roleplaying games? Both I believe are classed as books (though some RPGs are classed as Toys). Like these two sub category’s werent a mess already!

This is exactly what they did with CDs about 3 years ago and now you have to provide invoices to sell them. They are still being made inactive now 3 years later. Looks like books are going the same way.
