Second hand book selling

I am having a ongoing discussion with Amazon regarding not being able to list a signed edition of a John Fowles novel. Despite there being higher priced copies from other sellers listed I am not permitted to list our copy at less than those sellers but more than what Amazon has determined as a fair market price of £12. Many book dealers have experienced the same issue I know. My response to the cut and paste Amazon reply to my raising a case was as follows.
The question of why some sellers are able to list an inferior book at a higher price than our copy was not answered. We are not going to sell a signed by author copy of a book at the same price as one that has no collectable attributes.
Dressing the reply up in terms that masquerade the issue is not answering the question.
If you look at the forum second hand booksellers frequently complain about Amazons Marketplace Fair Pricing Policy as it does not recognise the collectable qualities of second hand books. The way the catalogue is presented also makes it hard for buyers to find specific editions of books. Ultimately buyers have a choice, they don’t have to purchase if they feel the price is too high !
Despite all the salutations it remains obvious that second hand booksellers are not respected or valued as sellers and experts in their field. Amazon would be better to close the second hand book marketplace and refer everyone to Abebooks. After all you are not going to sell this book on this site if you wont list it and it has in fact been listed elsewhere.

We understand that you are concerned about high pricing error for your ASIN 0224616544. Thank you so much for notifying us about the issue.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

We do understand the importance of your request and are happy to help you.

Ensure that your maximum price is not set lower than any other price (including business price and promotional pricing such as deals).

Reconsider your price inputs with Reference Prices provided, if any, and in accordance with the Amazon Marketplace Fair Pricing Policy.

Check to ensure that your shipping fee on a product is not excessive, as described by the Marketplace Fair Pricing Policy.

Ensure that your price complies with local laws and regulations.

Regarding your query:

Sellers are responsible for setting their own prices on Amazon marketplaces. In our mission to be the world’s most customer-centric company, Amazon strives to provide our customers with the largest selection, at the lowest price and fastest delivery – and sellers play an important role.

Amazon regularly monitors the prices of items in our marketplaces, including shipping costs, and compares them with other prices available to our customers.
The part describing Amazons mission statement is interesting !
