Do Amazon buy in grey market goods?
We noticed that one some listings where Amazon are the only other seller (apart from ourselves) that they’ve been put in the wrong category preventing us from selling them (health and beauty instead of clothing) which is a post I did a while ago and 3 months later still not resolved.
I’ve spoken to the brand owners about this but they insist that they don’t sell to Amazon directly (and it’s not a 3rd party FBA as they are listed as Sold and dispatched by Amazon which means it’s Amazon’s own inventory doesn’t it).
So if the brand owners aren’t selling to Amazon then would that mean they are buying in grey market goods for their own inventory?

Yes they do, absolutely. they are a huge multinational and buy wherever they can get the best deal. That’s why competing with them is so difficult.

It could also be that the brand owner sells through UK distributors and Amazon are buying from them.

it could also be fba stock that was lost, then claimed for and then ownership transferred to amazon.
who then resell it themselves.

If you think they’re telling you the truth about a big, possibly their biggest customer, you’re kidding yourself.
They tell you what you want to hear so you’ll carry on buying and not throw in the towel on a line Amazon are fulfilling too.

Amazon are a machine, only way to protect the price and cost of goods you sell is by being the only inventor, patent owner, manufacturer, designer, lawyer all in one, authorised dealer with a world wide trademark. They are a law unto themselves, but as they seem to be into arbitage I often buy in bulk items through Amazon business and then resell via FBA once they run out of stock. Either way, Amazon still offer a guarantee the same as me/us as per EU law, Sorry if off topic, but YES they do 100%.

Yes, they do it in regards to the products from Poland. Anything from the cosmetics and health-care (not over the counter) that has English written on it - is being bought in large quantities by Amazon directly and sold here.
