ABE books, is it worth also selling books on that platform as a UK bookseller?
Hello everyone
Just looking for advice from any other UK based or European based Bookseller who sells both on Amazon and on ABE Books.
We have been selling on Amazon UK for 8 years, mainly History, Military History and Politics. So far we have been doing reasonably well, concentrating on the UK and European markets, with the odd foray into selling books for the American Market, as long as the weight of the book isn’t horrendous.
We are aware that Amazon own ABE books. We were wondering if Amazon Dealers have experienced a positive uplift in sales by joining ABE.
Are most of the customers in the American Market, or do you get a good spread across the world?
What are the pros and cons that you have found?
What do you wish someone advised you before you took the plunge and joined ABE?
We are tempted to give it a go, but if the majority of the customer base is in America, we will have to price accordingly to cover postage.
All answers and observations gratefully received.

In a nutshell, ABE is better for rare and collectable, high value books whilst Amazon is better for popular and less expensive books. Are you selling used or new? If new then Amazon is probably your best bet. You ABE orders will likely be significantly fewer than your Amazon orders, but if you have a good stock of scarce and sought-after titles then you may find buyers for them on ABE. ABE has far fewer customers but certainly attracts the more serious book collectors, so it very much depends on the type of stock you have.
And yes, plenty of your ABE orders will be international.

Bairstow,
Many thanks for the advice, two thirds of our stock is new, whilst the remainder would be scarce or highly collectable Military Hardbacks. Definite food for thought. Thanks for taking the time to reply. It is appreciated.

ABE is definitely worth a shot as others have suggested and you do have more control over setting postage rates we have found.
