We use Direct Line for both insurnace and insurance (sorry😊, couldn't resist ), quick and easy and reasonable price. I have spoken to a person there (it might have been online chat, it was a while ago) and had good advice at the time.

We use policy bee. Product/public and employer  liability insurance and it’s backed by hiscox. We have never needed to make a claim so can’t comment on that! Easy to work with otherwise. In the region of 25£ a month for us. Varies on turnover. policybee.co.uk/refer/zkta-326 Gets you 20£ off if any use to you

Can I ask - what new insurance requirements?

There are no new requirements as far as I am aware. You should have had business insurance for at least product liability from day 1 of business.

But yes - I used to be with Direct Line but fell out with them when they failed to notify me when it lapsed. They 'said' they had tried contacting me. But my email history shows no such attempt and I certainly had no phone calls. Anyway, once I had realised this had happened they then said were unable to insure me anymore as I sell toys - their underwriters would not insure anyone selling toys.

In the end I went through a broker instead and managed get a policy far cheaper than I was paying Direct Line and allowed me to continue selling toys.

So my advice is to check any policy covers the products you sell
