Customer wants to return a new item that they have opened

Hi,

I have a customer who bought a brand new PC peripheral from me who has got in touch to say that it is incompatible with their operating system. They have opened it and attempted to use it to discover this.

What are my options for returns? Clearly it won’t be returned in the same condition that it was sent.

Can I charge a re-stocking fee or similar?

Thanks

You have to accept the return, assuming it’s within 30 days.
Only if if the item is materially different, can you offer a partial refund.
That doesn’t mean, that just because it’s been out of the box though.

Restocking fees are not allowed.

You can’t charge a ‘restocking fee’ (unless 30 days has passed) but you can certainly issue a partial refund to compensate for the fact the is now used, so devalued.

“Sellers may issue full or partial refunds for an order as described on this page.”
