UPC/EANs that are not sold by GS1

Has anyone else had this issue ,i have had listings deactivated, i have always used UPC/EANS from EAN-13 but now i have received an email saying

In order to reinstate the listings we need additional information from your end.

We have investigated and found the Seller to be using UPC/EANs that are not sold by GS1. If sold by GS1, please provide relevant proof to validate the UPC/EANs.

I have been selling on Amazon for over 10 years and never had a problem with my UPC/EANS. I spoke to customer support and they told me to get UPC/EANS from GS1 , Its not that its expensive , about £100 a year for unlimited UPC/EANS but the problem i have is i have 10,000 items for sale and i cannot purchase new UPC/EANS and just drop them in one by one as the Product ID and the Seller SKU are both locked , so in a nutshell i must relist everything manually and basically start listing from scratch, can anyone help me out as technical support and customer services were not much help, they just said sorry to be the ones to break the bad news but everything has to be done manually , so i guess if i do 50 items a day, i should be finished in about 3 years.

Unfortunately GS1 is the internationally recognised standard for Barcodes and amazon have insisted you use them for a while now (sincwe 2016 I think) so I guess someone has been issued a barcode by GS1 which has clashed with one of yours and raised the issue with Amazon which has flagged the fact your listings have slipped through the net. All of which means that unfortunately you will need to re-list with GS1 barcodes.

Also Amazon now check the barcode with GS1 as you list to make sure it is Valid as I have mistyped before now and had it flagged as not valid.

Maybe a bit of a long shot but could be worth a try…

Could you try contacting the people you bought them from in case they have not paid the annual fee causing them to become delisted?

If they can’t do anything about it maybe explain the situation to GS1 and say that you would like to register but you wish to take over that prefix and numbers?

I’m going to bookmark this thread as an example of what can happen when you use non-GS1 barcodes for when people are asking if it’s okay.

When I started which was 7 years ago, I bought the barcodes from website called ‘Speedy Barcodes’ … I didn’t even know what barcodes are about back in then… Amazon made GS1 barcodes compulsory in 2016 I think so I list all the new items with new GS1 codes but they kept my old listings. I didn’t have to change them. If I changed them, I would lose all feedbacks as you can’t just update the EAN number, you need to delete the old listing and create a new listing.
If your listing is created after 2016, you shouldn’t have created it with a barcode other than GS1 anyway. If it is an older listing, speak to Amazon, they might be able to let you keep the listing.

Out of interest would you mind posting one of your barcodes here and I will check if there is a matching GS1 barcode.
