Amazon still making wrong delivery promises!
We include shipping in our prices for books. We have set the parameters to allow time for media mail shipping. However, Amazon keeps using UPS for delivery date promises and threatens us with possible late deliver if we do not select UPS. This costs us nearly twice as much for shipping and takes all of our "profit"! Why do they keep making ridiculous promises that are way shorter than the promises we have set?

Go into your shipping settings and uncheck UPS as a shipping option. If you don't have it as an available shipping option it should keep Amazon from showing it as an option.

Trying making a new shipping policy and assign all the books to it if this isn't too much work.

This has happened to us a few times. Even though we have it set up by preferred shipping service, it will still use a different shipping service to calculate the shipping time.
There are other times in which this happens with Business buyers. I think for Business buyers they can set it up so that they only receive deliveries during business hours, so if your preferred shipping service is estimated to deliver the package outside of those hours, Amazon won't use it to calculate the time and will use a different shipping service.

This is by design. Amazon can say "we aren't FORCING you to use FBA, we'll just bankrupt you if you don't." The figleaf here is that you could use a more expensive shipping method to "guarantee" the item meets the stupid OTDR metrics ... or you could use FBA (which will ship by the cheapest method possible, and as a result be worse than an FBA order, but still get the Buy Box).
This is clearly illegal under traditional anti-trust law. Unfortunately, the country has been trained to believe that all regulation is bad, so we're stuck with this garbage.

Agree. No more profit or even a loss if you follow the suggested shipping service. I only drop off packages once a day, before noon. Why Amazon still wants seller to ship on the same day those new orders which are placed in the afternoon for Expedited or orders with nearby shipping address?
