Royal Mail stopping free thermal labels for RM24 AND rm48

Am I reading this right - Royal Mail are saying you shouldn't use the free thermal labels for RM24 AND rm48, and only use them for tracked and SD services?

I don't have separate printers for different services, I'm not sure how they think this is workable,

I'm calling up to ask how they imagine this working in practice, as I can't figure out how I'd go about my day

I noticed the same too. Been on hold with RM 30 minutes. will let you know how i get on! Ok, just finished call with RM customer services. It was news to them as well! She said she was going to look into it, but for me to email business customer services and ask how it was going to be possible to post CRL labels for RM24 & 48.

No, you can still use them for RM24 & RM48. You misread the announcement.

Checked the linked web page for full details.

I understand that they will no longer offer the thermal labels for Royal Mail 24/48 services for free, starting from April. Consequently, we will have to pay for these from that point onward

I noticed that and they don't list BPL as an exception, so it looks like we'll have to pay for labels and tags from 7th April. Seems ridiculous to me. CRL is still ok. I'm guessing they want us all to change to a tracked service.

It appears that Royal Mail will no longer offer free thermal labels for 1st and 2nd Class Account Mail (STL) services. However, VAT services will still have access to free labels. This change means that businesses using 1st and 2nd Class Account Mail will need to purchase their own thermal labels starting from April 7, 2025

As, far as I can tell other Royal Mail 24-48 will still have free labels?

Just check with RM or your account manager.

Check the link in the email or letter you have been sent (can't add it on here) and it shows that Royal Mail 24 and Royal Mail 48 are still okay for thermal labels.

You can not use them for BPL products going forward and obviously should not be used for any letter or 2nd class postage brought through Amazon

It's just them pushing everyone towards tracked services eventually, which to be honest is a heck of a lot less hassle. I swapped over 18 months ago and yes it costs slightly more but tracked has been so much less hassle/ wasted time with claims and customers contacting

You can use them for 24, 48 and the tracked service no problem.

I think what RM are trying to say, without saying it so as not to offend is

'Please don't use our labels for your Evri parcels, DPD parcels, UPS parcels and pallets, which you might used for bigger or other items, and most certainly use the same printer too!'

There are probably a few accounts sending say 5000 item per annum with RM yet taking 9000 labels a year to do it with!
