Error 8541/ 8572 listing New Product
Hello all,
Brand new seller and I am beyond frustrated right now. But we have to power through because frustration doesn’t get you anywhere. Can anyone in this forum help?
In summary:
(1) bought barcodes from GS1 UK
(2) tried to list on Amazon - error 8541 comes up
(3) requested a new set of barcodes , same issue
(4) requested another set of barcodes, same issue
(5) requested another set of barcodes, issue 8572
In total I have requested 120 barcodes from GS1 which are all being used by a non-existent seller.
In a nutshell the EAN barcode is conflicting with the data in Amazons catalogue.
“The value ‘x’ specified cannot be used as it conflicts with the value ‘x’ for ASIN z in Amazon’s catalogue. If this is ASIN ‘x’, update the value to match the ASIN data. If this is a different product, update identifiying information (UPC/EAN/Part Number/etc).”
Now to correct it I am being asked for:
- Manufacturer’s or Publisher’s (for books) website link clearly showing the suggested changes, along with visible product identifier (UPC, EAN, ISBN, etc.), if available.
- Manufacturer’s catalog (Product User Manual), either scanned image of the physical catalog or PDF version showing the suggested changes, along with visible product identifier (UPC, EAN, ISBN, etc.), if available.
- High-resolution product pictures, clearly showing the suggested changes, along with a visible product identifier (UPC, EAN, ISBN, etc.).
- A high-resolution photo of the item in its original packaging showing the product identifier (UPC, EAN, ISBN, etc.) code and the attribute or attributes that you need to change
All of which I do not have yet. I was trying to draft a listing/create a dummy listing because there was a final factor I needed to calculate my landed costs (shipping into Amz) so I could then go back to the manufacturer in China to negotiate the quote given. (all makes sense in my head).
I am stuck now time is ticking for Q4. Any practical advise or even from a moderator would help.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do.
The barcodes you are using have all been used before.
Amazon will keep telling you that your barcode is not unique.
I believe up until recently GS1 recycled barcodes after they were dormant for a while, but unfortunately listings never expire on Amazon, the only thing you can do is keep requesting more from GS1 until you get a set that work.
I’m surprised you have had so much problems though, seems a big coincidence that 120 barcodes all don’t work… I have used about 700 from GS1 so far, and only had that issue on one of them.
