New user, confused about 'Requires Approval' expectations (books)

Hi

So I signed up to Amazon Seller yesterday and my approval requirements which all confirmed today so in theory I thought I would be good to go.

I intend on selling used books however am getting 'Requires Approval' requests on each book I've scanned. This always requires Penguin, Collins, etc, brand approval. I can see the requirements of an invoice with multiples of 10 however does this mean I have to buy 10x Penguin books, 10x Collins, etc. books. There are thousand of books publishers out there so this would be almost impossible (some will no longer be in existence).

Having scanned these forums/internet for a couple of hours searching for a solution I'm at a total loss as to what to do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, David

"So I signed up to Amazon Seller yesterday "

If you only signed up yesterday, then I very much doubt your seller account will be fully verified yet - they have to check all your personal ID info and business info before you can start selling, so suggest you do NOT list anything yet.

Are these books from your own personal collection, or are they ones you are buying to sell on for profit ? - that will determine the type of seller account you need to have.

If all your own, previously owned books, then you will be OK with the Individual seller account (as long as you NEVER list anything in NEW condition - as soon as you list items as new they assume you are a business. If you are buying books to sell on for profit (even if bought from charity shops, car boots etc), then you MUST by law, be registered with HMRC as self-employed (probably sole-trader), and have an Amazon BUSINESS Seller Account - that needs to be your very first thing to do, and wait to receive your UTR in the post and give to Amazon.

Re. the requiring approval. This has become a real 'thorn in the flesh' for booksellers (I also sell used books). Some publishers now require approval, and as you mention Penguin, Collins etc. You only need to buy 10 IF you are buying NEW, as Amazon will require invoices from the manufacturer/publisher - (Amazon do NOT fully understand the bookselling industry !)
