PLEASE HELP: Wrong Item Dimensions, High FBA Storage Fee & Seller Service Useless
Hi,
I’ve had a nightmare with the FBA Storage Fee that started in December but only opened up a case with Seller Services in February (due to time constraints and other priorities).
Context:
We’re selling our own unique & branded product (3 ASINs) for which I’ve created the listing and didn’t fill the item dimensions of the unit (my fault) as I thought Amazon would measure the units themselves. When creating the shipments I added the dimensions of the 6-unit cases my products were shipped in though.
We’ve sent three shipments up until now for FBA in the span of 3 months (First at the end of August, second in September and third at the end of October). The first 2 did not have a lot of units, third one had around 1.5k. This info may be important on the long run.
In November, we were sent an email from the FBA Defect Reduction Team that one of our ASINs was not prepped and they did it in their warehouse free of charge as Amazon courtesy - they probably didn’t have time to send it back with it being close to Christmas and all.
In December we got the FBA storage fee from Amazon, 10 times higher than it should have been based on our initial calculations, which is ludicrous. With Christmas being our main selling period we just left the problem for the new year.
In January I checked the sizes we were billed according to for all of the months and I was shocked to find that the unit size was the case size (which was supposed to house 6 units). Now, I have no idea how that happened, maybe it was my mistake… Now, I’ve opened up a case with Amazon, told them that somehow the unit size was offered the dimensions of the case and offered official specs for units and case, they closed the case saying that “I have examined the report for December as an example, and note that the large amounts of storage fees were attributed to items which had large numbers of units in inventory, so space taken up was large” which is right, but they didn’t even look at the dimensions (what I asked them to, as dimensions were 6 times the actual size).
I told them that they I want my units remeasured, which they did & came back as 37cm/12cm/12cm with 1.6kg for all three of my ASINs (different from case or unit size). It seems that when Amazon prepped my units they repackaged every unit individually in a case this size. although excessive packaging for my 19cm/8cm/8cm units I would be ok with paying for them. But these sizes were udpated from November onwards for only 1 of 3 ASINs, thus 2 ASINs were still taxed at the case size (significantly higher). I told them that the sizes for 2 ASINs from November onwards were wrong, as resulted from their remeasurement. They keep posting the same reply:
"Greetings from Amazon Selling Partner Support.
I understand that your concern is regarding the high Storage fee charged on two of your ASINs. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused to you.
As informed we have raised re-measurement for the listings and they have updated the measurement. Please know that the measurement updated previously is the correct re-measurement is same as that of old values.
As earlier informed, I have also re-checked your concern, and can confirm that storage fees are calculated using the dimensions of a packaged item. Please see excerpt from the “Inventory storage fees” help page in the link below.
excerpt regarding calculation of volume: “The cubic feet of any unit will be based on the unit’s size as properly packaged and ready for shipping to customers in accordance with the FBA program policies.”
Furthermore, I have examined the report for December as an example, and note that the large amounts of storage fees were attributed to items which had large numbers of units in inventory, so space taken up was large.

Your patience, co-operation and understanding in this regard is highly appreciated.
It was a pleasure assisting you.
Thank you for selling with Amazon. "
It’s already been way over a month and I’m being constantly offered the same copy/pasted answer, although I gave November as an example in which higher quantities didn’t result in the higher fees (1 ASIN being the billed at Amazon packaging size) and I was still given the same copy/pasted email with December as an example.
It’s been over 12 replies/case closed with the same message no matter what points I’m raising.
What to do?
Many thanks,
Radu

If they’ve left your inventory in cases it’ll probably be best to submit a removal request to get them all back, otherwise your customers might get a case for the price of a single unit. Plus storage and fulfilment costs are likely to be very high.
Once all items are removed send them back in and make sure it’s clear how they’re packaged to prevent it happening again. Then request a re-measurement.
