USPS recycling and reusing tracking numbers

Not sure if it's just my luck but for 2 orders, seems USPS labels purchased through Amazon have been recycled for items (not mine) that were delivered some time ago in the recent past. Going to assume I'm out of luck on getting a refund because they show as delivered by USPS.

Happy Monday... :(

Same here. We only noticed because a customer let us know. We shipped all of ours through Veeqo. Going to have to refund them (if possible) and re ship them another way. This is such a mess and will result in late packages. I fear shipping them out with old tracking numbers and wrong zip codes.

We've seen the same thing - recently recycled tracking numbers. My hope is that the tracking information will reset with a new scan.

We have already started to get several complaints that the tracking #s show delivered last month or in Dec and in different locations.

Customers are getting very upset and concerned.

Seems like Amazon / USPS must have a severe systems issue today.

This is going to be a customer service nightmare :(

I am having the same issue. Hoping Amazon or USPS or someone releases a statement on this.

If anything, the tracking on the Amazon side does seem to be updating properly. Even though USPS shows delivered on 12/24, Amazon shows that the item arrived at a carrier facility this evening.

Happening to me too. My labels from other venues are working fine, it's just my Amazon ones, and only labels purchased today. I ship Ground Advantage < 1lb.

Same issue here. Only ground advantage labels for me, hazmat and priority aren't showing up at all on USPS site. Seems like a system error on USPS' side, hopefully they get it resolved before all the packages are headed to the wrong zip code. Are the moderators aware of this? The sooner Amazon can get on top of USPS to correct this, the better for everyone

We have a few hundred packages sent today. We are at 4 customers freaking out so far. It is not just Amazon, but also other channels (we use Veeqo).

This is a big problem. I expect the next thing we will see are AtoZ's for not received.

193 of our Feb 24 shipped packages had used tracking #s. 99% show delivered in Dec and 1% show delivered in Jan.

We are experiencing the same. Essentially all orders shipped on Monday, 2-24-2025 via USPS Ground Advantage (<1lb) using Amazon Shipping Services reflect a 'recycled' Amazon assigned USPS trackingID. These 'recycled' USPS tracking IDs reflect within USPS tracking system as packages shipped/delivered in December 2024.

We have 56 of 67 orders from yesterday's shipping (Monday, 2-24-2025) experiencing this - i.e. Amazon provided USPS trackingID assigned through Amazon Buy Shipping Services displaying 'recycled' tracking information from December 2024 within USPS.

Moderator attention/input would be greatly appreciated.

It's actually still happening today with ALL USPS Ground Advantage labels.

It would be great if we can get some kind of update.

Hello Sellers. Thank you for reporting this issue with tracking numbers.

I shared this and related threads for review. It would help if you could share any Support Case IDs you have filed with specific order/tracking details, as well as if you have seen this for any carrier besides USPS.

I also bought directly in Amazon buy shipping, don't even have Veeqo. For me it only affect USPS ground advantage under 1lb. Hazmat and Priority were unaffected, though much smaller sample size. Printout at my local USPS shows original tracking progress then delivery in AL, then picks right up one month later mid-page with being dropped off as if it was the same package. Based on scans trajectory it does seem like mine are headed to the right recipients.

Having this problem with two orders so far. But I shipped 150 orders in the last two day. Ugh.. This is going to result in negative feedback. Will Amazon remove those?

Tried using chat all day for help and got nowhere. Asked repeatedly for a new shipping label and got nowhere. What do you want us to do about this. In my case, it shows delivered on Feb 10. The item is on my desk waiting for Amazon to let me know what to do.

We purchase through Amazon Buy Shipping and we now had our first customer reach out with this issue. 112-4969941-5453065 with tracking number 9300120111412393004372

List I compiled so far. We cancelled all the labels we purchased through Amazon Buy Shipping today and went through our own software. So not only spent hours of time doing this, we pay for the physical label paper the postage is printed on. Talk about kicking you while you are down. I guess it's good our sales are so bad otherwise, we would have even more headaches. What a nightmare, Amazon!!!!!

Last week received an email from Elizabeth telling me the tracking showed packed delivered in November even though we sent out in February. Not knowing what to do, I refunded the package and asked to be refunded for the shipping. Yesterday received email from customer stating the package had been delivered.

Yesterday I received a similar email from Roy.

These are apparent glitches where the system is issuing used tracking numbers as new.

Can someone check into this and see what is going on.

KJ, we're all receiving emails from upset, confused customers.. Why can't Amazon send out a notice informing customers what happened and that this is Amazon's fault?? This issue is going to cause us sellers ORD damage.

This needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY. It's affecting our ability to purchase shipping labels, be protected from A-Z's, it's going to result in "late" metric hits, we aren't able to get REFUNDS for this postage because it's been "used" already. This is an absolute MESS and someone needs to be held accountable for this.

I purchased my labels for today OUTSIDE of Amazon because it's been reported below that this is STILL an ongoing issue. We should be covered for A-Z's for anything shipped this week so far. It's not our fault that someone at AMAZON BROKE the Shipping program.

Just noticed that as well. Is there a mod who can check to see if there is a tracking glitch in the system. I checked 2 items and they showed delivered, but they had not even arrived at the post office.

Let us know!

The packages might actually be traveling correctly through the USPS system, but I don't think the Amazon tracking is actually showing correctly. My packages are 'arriving at the carrier facility' and 'departed carrier facility' way more than would reflect any actual travel... and none of those facilities are identified by location.

More nonsense:

Veeqo still shows that if I purchase a label that it will be OTDR and INR protected using USPS Ground advantage... but if I want to purchase that label directly from "buy shipping" the order page says that it has used USPS Ground Advantage for my Delivery Promise, but instead of seeing OTDR and INR protected in Buy Shipping, it says "risk of late delivery" and no protection if I choose Ground Advantage. Only the much more expensive DHL and UPS options show the protection icons. And this is for an address close enough to me that I could be at in 24 minutes tops...

I don't even know what service to use, and I don't trust either of them at this point.

ETA: I shipped the local package in Veeqo and got a seemingly unused tracking number, and my ODTR and INR protections are reflected on the Amazon Order Page. YMMV

I just lost a A-to-Z claim because of the recycled trackign number this week. There isn;t a case ID attached to this issue, what information would I need to submit to have this looked at?
