Split product ads up into different ad groups retrospectively

I currently have a manual campaign and an auto campaign. In the manual campaign, all of my products are split into different ad groups, but in my auto campaign, they are all just in one ad group.

I shouldn't have done this as my products are different and I can't adjust the bidding/targeting now for each product.

In there a way to split the products up in the auto campaign into different ad groups?

I don't want to have to create new ad groups manually and lose all of the historical data as it is been running for a long time. I fear it would be like starting the product ads from scratch if I did this so Amazon wouldn't use the history/data it has on the product.

Thanks

Hi @Seller_GbZxEv0iLYcch,

To address 'splitting products into different ad groups': Unfortunately, there’s no built-in function to simply split products into separate ad groups within an existing auto campaign. However, you can streamline this process with a bulk upload to save time and effort.

Regarding your concern about historical data and 'starting from scratch': While it’s true that the specific historical data in the current ad group won’t transfer (e.g., historical reporting data can’t be split up or transferred to new ad groups), your campaign doesn’t lose all its value. The sales and interactions your ads have already generated contribute to Amazon’s understanding of which customers find your product relevant. This impacts your ranking and overall targeting accuracy, meaning a new auto-targeting ad group will still have a strong foundation. It will likely perform more effectively, with more specific targeting and a higher conversion rate than when you first started.

If you're still concerned about losing valuable insights, a good middle-ground could be to keep your best-selling product in the original ad group, preserving any unique data there. Then, you can create separate ad groups for your other products by pausing them in the original group and setting up new ad groups. This isn’t an exact transfer, but it allows you to segment your ads without fully discarding the value you’ve built up.

Hope this helps!

Best, Michael
