Royal Mail 24/48 Average Weight?
We’ve only just started using Royal Mail 48 with average weight. Is there a way to see how much the total weight is before you manifest.

we just make a note as we print the labels ie
10 x 50g
60 x 80g
24 x 200g
etc etc - we can then add the total items and the total weight and then weigh the bags to make sure it tallies

with regards the average weight. what happens if you declare more than the actual weight?
And is this really going to start in oct 1?

I want to ask I have a n item that weighs 900g and manifested this but when I went to the PO it came in at 917g and want to ask would I be penalised for this or not.
I need to note that my weighing scale goes up in every 50g etc aso I don’t have an exact precise to the gram scale one apart from a small wee one.
Please advise

In reply to the actual original question, yes you can work out the averages before you manifest. Once orders are marked as dispatched and BEFORE manifesting you can use the “reports” menu and create a report using the filters of large letter/parcel/48/24 etc then open a spreadsheet and work out your averages. You can then add a few lighter ones if the average is over etc etc.

End of first day trying to do this average weight stuff… I’ve been writing them down all day to see what the average is but have worked out a faster way for anyone who’s interested. Before you manifest go to the “dispatched” section on click and drop and you’ll see a list of all the orders that are yet to be manifested but are marked as dispatched. This should be the number of items in your sack waiting to go. If you’re like me all your items are RM 48 but if they’re not you’ll need to use the filters to select each service one by one. So for now lets assume you shipped everything on the same service, i.e RM 48 OR 24… Go to the cog at the top and you want to unselect all the options so it just leaves you with the 3 options you can’t unselect, i.e order number the weight and service (something like that). Now select all the rows top to bottom and right click copy. Open up a spreadsheet and click paste. Do control + f and you want to type in “g” and then click replace all with and just leave the box blank. This will replace all the g (for grams) on the end of the weights. Now go to the bottom and type in a blank box =sum( - and once you’ve typed that into the empty box select the last weight in your long list you copied and pasted and then drag up to the top of the list and then press enter… go back to the box at the bottom and you should now have a total weight of all your shipments in grams… i.e 12539 … then simply divide by how many items you have “dispatched” in click and drop and that will give you the average…

What you can do is, if one item of mail takes you over the average weight, say LL 100g then manifest that one separately print off the sheet staple them together, then just put it in the bag with the rest.

We have to give about 50% - 60% of our sacks back as they’re not fit for purpose. It’s not a surprise that mail gets damaged when you can fit your whole entire head through the bottom of some of the sacks… Others there’s massive holes that they’ve fixed with cable ties so it’s not a flat bag…

I keep a backup.
I have a stack of 20 I’m currently working through, and a stack of 20 unopened. When I open that 20 I will order another 20, and the cycle continues. It gives me a bit of breathing room if I forget to order them, or if they don’t deliver them, but then I post by BPL so I am using 3 or 4 bags a day.
I also get collections, but ironically the guy who collects my mail has never once brought my bags, they always arrive earlier in the day by a completely different person.
