Branded Products - What are you actually allowed to resell?

Hi all,

Just starting out selling on Amazon. I have read through the policies and done my own research but nothing has really made it crystal clear about reselling branded products on existing listings. If the product is unrestricted, does that mean we are allowed to legitimately resell that identical branded product? Is any further permission needed if sourced on ebay/facebook/shops? Also, why are some products restricted and some unrestricted for the same brand? If someone could clearly set out what we are and are not allowed to resell on existing listings that would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you source on ebay / Facebook / shops you would have to list as used, not new.

That would also be far too complex for anyone to do.
Remembering that this is Amazon then your safest method is to approach a manufacturer/brand owner directly and request permission to purchase their goods to sell ON AMAZON, and get that permission in writing [a Letter of Authorization} then request a list of their authorized suppliers, and if possible get that confirmed in writing too.
Once you have that permission place your order with one of the authorized suppliers and obtain a proper invoice which meets all the guidelines set out by Amazon.
At that point, with everything in place you can list your item .But only on a page which matches the item you have in every detail, including the brand name…

Adrian’s got it right, but to say the same again in different terms:

Items are restricted because some manufacturers either want to exclusively sell their own items on Amazon, or enter agreements with others for them to do so. If you’re interested in selling something then contact the manufacturer (brand owner) for clarification. You’ll need the things that Adrians lists.

Thanks for all your replies.

Is permission needed from a manufacturer/brand owner if the product is listed as ‘used’ under their listing? If a product is unrestricted does that mean it is okay to resell them as ‘used’?

Thanks again
