Update to seller feedback experience: Introducing star-only ratings

On 4 August 2025, we’ll launch a simplified seller feedback submission experience, so customers can give a star-only rating with optional written feedback. This simplified review experience can help you receive more seller ratings faster.

Honest and authentic star ratings are an important way for customers to know how past order experiences were perceived by other customers. To make it easier for customers to submit ratings, we’re making written feedback optional, which will help increase rating submissions and give customers more information to confidently make purchase decisions.

When customers submit seller feedback with or without text, we automatically look for signs of abuse and evaluate them against our customer review creation guidelines. When there is no text, the feedback appeal feature in Feedback Manager will be disabled for all star-only rating reviews. If you believe the star-only rating violates our customer review creation guidelines, you can request additional review through Report a violation.

To learn more, go to Monitor feedback and performance.

If a buyer leaves a 1 star feedback because an item was delivered late, but doesn't leave a comment to say it was late, we cannot ask for it to be struck through when we have used buy shipping ?

Just as eBay has made their feedback system 10 times better, amazon makes theirs 10 times worse......

So, buyers will be able to leave a 1 star rating with no text on my seller feedback?

As a seller, I will have absolutely no idea why the buyer is not happy.

Other buyers checking my feedback will have absolutely no idea why a 1 star rating has been left.

It’s bad enough that buyers can do this on product reviews already.

HOW DOES THIS HELP ANYBODY?

This is absolutely ridiculous.

News_Amazon is a coward. This account posts all these announcement threads, with numerous that are overwhelmingly and even unanimously voted down with sellers asking for some answers. Yet this account has not posted a single reply anywhere.

(And it turns out that you can't even ping @News_Amazon, unlike all other accounts that post in these forums.)

How about the mods announce these under their own accounts instead of hiding behind News_Amazon.

'I've got an idea for a new feature'

'Has anyone asked for it?'

'It should mean our support bots have to spend less time manually decided if a feedback can be struck through so it'll save us money'

'What about the sellers? What do they think?'

'Do we care?'

I hate this update. How does it help good sellers? I’ve been selling since 2016 and have 100% positive feedback with just under 1,000 reviews.

That said, I’ve had many negative feedback comments removed because Amazon or their couriers were at fault. Just this week, I received a 1-star review where the customer complained that their order did not arrive on time through FBA. If that same customer had only left a star rating, I would’ve been stuck with a 1-star review.

I can’t understand this move. I’ve always strived to keep my feedback perfect because I think it must look good to customers. Now, nine years of hard work maintaining my store’s feedback could be trashed by ratings, and I won’t even know the reason the customer is unhappy.

More importantly, I won’t be able to tell if the issue was something out of my control and actually Amazon’s fault.

At the moment, it’s easy to spot a good seller because their feedback score is very close to 100%. With this change, all sellers will look worse, and the genuine bad sellers will get hidden in a sea of poor feedback ratings.

I’m completely unimpressed with this change — looks like I can kiss my 100% positive feedback score goodbye.

Wow, so the amount of 1* feedbacks I get because of Amazon not delivering a parcel under their paid-FBA service that later needs to be removed, now essentially won't be as we are being restricted to see what the star is for?

So the sellers will be penalised for all of that, and paying for a service where we have no right to see and remove the bad review if goes wrong as there is just no way in knowing what the true reason is for a low star, and I can't imagine the amount of hours amazon will incur receiving the requests to investigate on top.

For anyone using FBA, a low star is usually always the cutomer wrongly inserting a product review or complaining goods not delivered. It seems unfair now that for all the years of maintaining a 5* feedback upkeep, that is all about to be destroyed overnight by a seriously unfair change being planted on sellers.

Most customers are just frustrated and do not understand amazon is even in charge of the FBA delivery, and will just likely just drop a 1*, which now can't be removed. An FBA service user will most likely know deep down that any low star received is just delivery related but have no proof to remove it.
