Charged a £2811 removal fee... I guess we just take that on the chin?

Hey everyone!

Just a little vent post 😳

We had a supplement listed for about a year, it was a good seller until Amazon introduced a policy change (which is fair enough) and made the item restricted for sale here. This new rule was not in place at time of listing, this supplement is not restricted outside of A and you'll find it on the shelves in H&B.

We had to remove 5222 units as a result, and have been charged £2811.78 in removal fees - we received the stock back in 79 packages.

It just feels unfair since it's a product we listed in good faith, we sold about 40000 units since October 2023 so we've paid a hefty amount of fees and only shipped to FBA the amounts that were recommended in 'restock inventory'.

Just had to have a mini vent and wondered what peoples thoughts were 😊

We did reach out to SS before placing the removal order and I am sure you already know how that went...

You have my sympathies, if it is not restricted outside of Amazon I don't see why it should be restricted on Amazon.

Yes I do think you have to take it on the chin, I don't see anyway you can get your money back from the removal.

I personally have never followed the restock inventory figures that Amazon give. I don't find they tally with what I would expect to sell. I nearly always send in a lower figure so I don't get caught out with a listing issue.

That said I have scaled FBA right back in the last year. There are too many risks. One of those is a listing take down such as you had. At least with FBM I have the stock and can sell it elsewhere if Amazon causes me problems.

If you're doing supplements then I'm sure your margins can take a £2k hit ;-)

In all seriousness though, are you using a tool like Getida / Seller Investigators etc for FBA reimbursements? I know this is a slightly different case, since those tools are mostly focussed on inbound discrepancies, but it might be worth checking with them. We personally use Getida.

Or look at it another way, if you're not using Getida/Seller Investigators (there are plenty of others as well) then you're likely due a big payout (based on the numbers you quoted, it would far surpass £2-3k) so consider this another way of getting the money back indirectly.

Other than that, if this happened to me, I would probably just take it on the chin. It's typical Amazon bulls*it and your time can be spent in more productive ways.

This happened to me in the USA marketplace. I was selling a vanilla brand, and Amazon accused me of selling counterfeit products. I shared all the invoices and supplier information, but it wasn't enough for them. Long story short, Amazon banned me from selling the brand, and the removal cost me over $5,000. I wish I could say more, but this is an Amazon forum, and it's controlled by them.

I'd echo Getida, especially if they still have the fee free starter period. With that volume in one line I would bet there's loads of damaged and missing items they'll find. It's bleeping depressing that a third party has to do it but that's another story.

to be honest with you ,

I agree with what most people are saying here

1: we have just had a removal fee charge that we have been better if we just threw the product away. , 146 separate packages for 152 items.

Now days the amount of listing removals for various reason , that amazon are now telling me only accepting preapproved sellers for the listing , but i can convert the listing to FBA .However the listing is already FBA and has always been FBA

I also have written authority from the brand to sell the products .

it seems impossible to get the issues resolved

I feel sorry for you, it probably cost them £300/400 to send the parcels, maybe there is a way to complain to director email to ask for some sort of refund

But people reading this, this is the very reason why you should never send this much stock into Amazon at once, send it as and when you need to as you can never depend on Amazon's system to not be robotic, unforgiving & cruel

If you can't store at home then hire a storage container, you might not even pay more than storing with Amazon depending on size

Sadly this is why amazon is losing many vendors - I am looking forward to working with a new global platform very shortly... dm me if you would like details.
