Buying and selling

discussion.Good Morning, I am new to Amazon FBA but a little confused about how it works. I am wanting to go into shops and buy deals to sell etc as I have seen this is a good way to start but I have noticed you need to ask permission to sell brands such as huggies etc how do I go about permissions? Will it work with a store receipt? If not how am I to try and set up my account so I can start selling? I find the process very confusing. Many Thanks

Buying retail to sell on amazon CAN work - but if you do get asked to supply proof of your supply chain - you'll find very quickly, that amazon don't accept retail receipts.

They state as much here

Basically - you need to source products from wholesalers or directly from manufacturers. Not shops.

What you are wanting to do will likely fail, I am afraid, and is not the best business model for Amazon. Not sure why you think that this is a good way to start ? Buying from stores (high street shops) is NOT the best way on Amazon, as they will seldom accept retail receipts. Some people get lucky and they do for a while, but then they will ask for proper invoices from reputable wholesalers.

As for learning the process - you need to thoroughly read and study Amazon 'Seller University' - found under 'learn' on your seller homepage. Selling on Amazon is not easy and there are lots of metrics and policies to follow and adhere to.

welcome to the Amazon FBA journey! 😊

You're definitely not alone in finding the process a bit confusing at first — there's a lot to take in. You're on the right track by looking into retail arbitrage (buying deals from shops to resell on Amazon), as it can be a good way to get started and learn the ropes. However . However, you're absolutely right to be cautious about brand restrictions and ungating.

🔐 About Brand Permissions (Ungating)

Amazon does restrict the sale of certain brands (like Huggies, Lego, Nike, etc.). To get ungated (gain permission to sell), Amazon typically asks for invoices from authorized distributors or manufacturers — and this is key:

👉 Retail receipts from shops (like Tesco, Boots, AliBaba etc.) are not accepted as proof of supply chain if Amazon requests verification.

They state this clearly in their seller guidelines, and many sellers have been suspended or had listings removed because they couldn’t provide compliant documentation. It is just normal advice.

Start by selling brands and categories that don’t require approval. Look for “Ungated” categories like books, home goods, or some kitchen items.

Absolutely — selling on Amazon isn't as simple as listing a product and waiting for sales.

There are lots of metrics, policies, and performance standards that sellers must follow. Some key things to stay on top of include:

📊 Performance Metrics:

Order Defect Rate (ODR) – should stay below 1%

Late Shipment Rate – must be under 4%

Pre-Fulfilment Cancel Rate – should stay under 2.5%

📋 Policies to Understand: Product condition guidelines (e.g., new must be new). Brand and category restrictions. Invoicing and proof-of-supply rules. Intellectual property (IP) complaints and how to handle them

⚠️ Amazon is buyer-focused: Even a small issue can impact your account health.

For example, one customer complaint — even if unfounded — could trigger an account review or suspension if you're not prepared.

Bottom line: Success on Amazon takes time, learning, and attention to detail — but it’s definitely achievable with the right mindset and tools. I do believe that you better to be careful going forward

welcome to amazon and though many may discourage you for having this idea - its an idea after all. Unfortunately your idea will not suit platform like amazon and you may want to do bit more research before starting a business here. Go through seller university on amazon and dont rely on youtubers or similar.

Just beware - amazon is massive platform and may look lucrative but its sometime behave like government on its own and be ready you adapt.

Anything you buy retail becomes 2nd hand so cannot be resold in NEW condition on Amazon.
