Reclaiming VAT on Amazon Fees

SORRY - i know there have been lots of posts about this but I seem to be getting myself more and more confused.

My Ltd company registered to sell on Amazon back in 2012, we were VAT registered which we obviously confirmed with Amazon at the time.

In 2019, we deregistered for VAT as I was running the company on my own and reduced my working hours and informed Amazon at the time.

I am confused! Am I able to claim back VAT on fees for the period when I was VAT registered or only for after deregistration OR BOTH? We also sold into 4 or 5 EU countries before we left the EU (stock stored in UK warehouses) so am I also able to claim back VAT on those fees?

Thank you in advance for any guidance.

There was no VAT on fees whilst you were registered for VAT - they would go though your VAT filings as reverse charge.

As for VAT on fees after you de-registered, you should speak to an accountant before you take any steps to exempt yourself from VAT on Amazon. It has implications for accounting and may not be suitable for all sellers.
