Update 3G-only device listings for the UK 3G switch-off

The UK's mobile network currently uses four different generations of mobile technology: 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G. Network operators have started to gradually switch off 3G networks to make room for more advanced 4G and 5G networks to give customers better, faster and more reliable services. Currently, the shut-off only applies to 3G, but it will impact 2G by 2033 at the latest.

If you list a 3G device, you must provide information at the point of sale on which networks the device can use. Given the 3G switch-off, your product description must not refer to 3G being a key or important feature of the device (for example, you cannot say that 3G allows the customer to access emails).

To review the guidance from the communications regulator, Ofcom, go to Switching off the UK’s 2G and 3G mobile networks.

For more information on the switch-off and how to list 3G devices, go to Mobile network operator 36 switch-off.
