Upcoming changes to the automated return authorization exemptions for seller-fulfilled orders
To further ensure operational efficiency and a consistent customer experience, we will update select product exemptions for automated return authorizations. This means that, as of August 31, 2022, Amazon will automatically authorize in-policy return requests on your behalf for the following selection:
- Items classified as ‘hazardous goods’ by Amazon
- Product subcategories Professional Medical supplies and Professional Dental supplies
- Product categories Grocery and Wine
- Product categories Video, Video Games, Software and DVD
- Items classified as ‘hygienic’ by Amazon from product categories Baby, Beauty, Health & Personal Care, Personal Care appliances
On the Manage Returns page, you can identify automatically authorized return requests via the green ‘Auto-authorized’ flag. To view your return requests, go to Manage Returns or download a Return report.
In addition, you will receive an email notification when a buyer creates a return request and it is auto-authorized by Amazon. To ensure that your return notifications are activated and that your email address is up to date, go to Notifications options.
Note that some products will remain exempt from automated return authorizations and that return requests of such items will continue to be sent to you for manual review and authorization. Following are the items included:
- Amazon Custom (customized products)
- Handmade
- Fresh cut flowers & bouquets
For return requests that require your authorization, make sure that you respond within 24 hours. For more information on how to manually process such return requests, go to Process return requests.
Note that this change is an automation of our existing Return policy and that the policy itself remains unchanged.
For more information on the existing Return policy, go to About Our Returns policies.

When food leaves our control we cannot do anything with it if its return, we cannot put it back on sale
Amazons policy to do a visual inspection and put it back on sale, such a bad policy
So now we have to accept returns of food that will be thrown in the bin, we pay for the postage, we pay for the goods, we refund the order
Just another example where customer care is being too expensive to sell on amazon

Tins yes, but it doesnt take much to get a foreign object into all other packaging
And then if you just like the flavour and try to return half a product, not acceptable either
Unless it arrives damage or different from what is advertised we dont do returns for food, standard food policy but now we have to factor in costs that will increase the price even more on amazon

When grocery was included in the first place before being exempt we got 10 requests
Outside of this policy we get maybe! 1 request in the same period and normally because they dont like the flavour
Food is not try and return
Its the argument with customer about reduced or no refund, its the policy also that doesnt help anyone

Since Amazon started with this automatic returns our returns have risen dramatically. we are being charged an extornatate rate and most of these items are not arriving back here some have been returned to other countries some are marked in tracking as being within a few miles of here only 2 have actually made it back here before this we had no problems with returns very few returns and any returns all arrived back here.
It is so shocking to see the horror show that Amazon has become.
Some day Amazon will come out with some news that should be goods nes for sellers and no seller will believe them as Amazon has destroyed the trust between sellers and Amazon which is now almost as bad as the mistrust between buyers and sellers you have created a very negative atomsphere where no one is happy.

Yep on all points !!
I will not be accepting returns for full refunds for any other reason than damage or not as advertised, expecting a fair few arguments with amazon and customers

Amazon UK clearly ignoring the law in regards to the transport of hazmat flammable liquids!
Putting carriers staff & drivers at risk.
Amazon’s preferred carrier partners. Royal Mail & Hermes (Evri) do NOT permit hazmat flammable liquids in their delivery network.
As a hazmat warehouse, we do not accept deliveries nor returns from these couriers.
Well thought out Amazon UK. Breaking UK law & putting lives at risk.
