Listing policy violations - Mistake on the rules page

I know it's Friday and many have downed tools for the day so many will not see this (as no one is here most days anyway now!), but...

Recently I've had quite a few listing policy violations, specifically for HTML in product descriptions. I was/am aware they changed the rules some time ago. I just hadn't got round to changing all my listings (3000).

However, today I received 11 violations (which thankfully don't affect my account health) for listings that followed what were the rules (and were not included in the flagged batch from before). Reason given, just the bland "Product Detail Page Rules Violation (Inaccurate information on product detail page)". On checking, these listings -

  1. They were still clearly showing (on the front end) the full product description. So nothing had been removed.
  2. There was nothing in the text descriptions themselves that broke the rules.
  3. The listing product details had some < br >'s (without the spaces) - which was allowed and is standard HTML - which was the only thing I could see that could have caused the warnings. I do wish they would provide exact details instead of vague notices.

Anyway, the point of my post is not so much about that, but about the fact that the link to the product details page rules has a glaring mistake in it. Surprise? Not!

I changed the < br >'s (which is standard HTML), to < br /> (again, without the spaces), which is correct for XHTML. I should know, I ran a web company from scratch for 17+ years, building the websites myself in the beginning.

HOWEVER, on the rules page - https://sellercentral.amazon.co.uk/help/hub/reference/G200390640?mons_sel_mkid=amzn1.mp.o.A1F83G8C2ARO7P&mons_sel_mcid=amzn1.merchant.o.A31MJJ2JIO88HF&mons_sel_persist=true&stck=EU - it says that you can use < /br > (again, no spaces), which is NOT correct XHTML. The slash goes AFTER the br, not before.

Just in case anyone gets caught out.

After changing them to the correct XHTML, the violations were removed.
