Is Amazon planning on making everyone go FBA?
I noticed this wording when listing a book on the new style listing page. I would find FBA totally impractical for second hand books as many of them take years to sell. It may be I am reading too much into this but you can never tell with Amazon.
You are not registered for Fulfilled by Amazon. Register now
For now, you can choose the "Merchant Fulfilled" option, and change it to "Fulfilled by Amazon" later once you are registered. Or you can skip this step by clicking the tick box "Let me skip the offer data and add it later" at the top.

Yes, that has recently appeared on the new listing page. You just need to tick the box that you will fulfil yourself, and ignore the bit about registering for FBA. As you say, it is a non-starter for second-hand books There is no way they could make all sellers go FBA..

I think many who do FBA would say the opposite - that many of Amazon's recent policy changes are about pushing sellers away from FBA to FBM.

FBA is great for fast selling lines but you have to expect higher refunds
For slower selling lines it is not feasible
There are also risks. If listings get corrupted or taken down due to no fault of your own you have to pay for the items to be returned.
I don't think Amazon would want everyone on FBA there is not enough warehouse space to cope with it. They obviously want to push it and fill up as much warehouse space as possible as they make more money from FBA sellers from storage and fulfilment fees.
