Do ‘Next Day’ orders = Royal Mail Tracked 24 or Special Guaranteed Next Day?
I would like to know what the Amazon ‘Premium Delivery’ shipping options equate to in Royal Mail shipping terms.
Q1. Does Amazon ‘Next Day’ = Royal Mail Tracked 24 or Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm?
Q2. Does Amazon ‘Second Day’ = Royal Mail Tracked 48 or Tracked 24?
Q3. Is it something completely different?
We have been selling on Amazon for over a year and are eligible for Amazon ‘Premium Delivery’ service, allowing buyers to optionally purchase ‘Next Day’ / ‘Second Day’ shipping for an additional cost. We fulfil all orders ourselves using Royal Mail only. Over 95% of goods sold are handmade and classed as parcels. Our default shipping label is Royal Mail ‘Tracked 48’. We also use ‘Tracked 24’ and ‘Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm’, dependant on the order.
For ‘Next Day’ orders we have been using ‘Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm’ as Royal Mail always delivers these on time (in our experience).
For ‘Second Day’ orders we have been using Tracked 24 in case Royal Mail do not deliver within 1 day.
Fortunately, we have not had any issues with buyers not receiving their parcel within our stated SLA.
Q4. Do you follow the same method as us, or do something different? If different, please elaborate.
Look forward to reading your responses.

Yes you are doing it correctly as per their guidance on suitable shipping for premium deliveries

All sounds fine.
Just watch out for before the-cut-off-time “Next Day” orders on a Friday. They should be delivered on the Saturday, NOT the Monday as that would just be too logical.

Thanks for your responses.
@Hanmia_Trading, do you find Tracked 24 is always delivered the next day?
Reason for my question is; Special Delivery is very costly for us especially as some of our customised products can weigh over a kilo, on such order we take a little hit on our margin. I was hoping someone would tell me to use Tracked 24 for ‘Next Day’ and Tracked 48 for ‘Second Day’.
Do you (anyone reading) ship using Tracked 24 or Special Delivery for Amazon ‘Next Day’ orders?

I used to have the exact same setup.
Standard - send RM48
Two Day - send as Tracked24
One Day - send as SD
There was a time when Amazon just would not allow Tracked48 to be bought for Two Day which is why I used Tracked24.
However, I have noticed recently this has changed. I have Amazon shipping automation turned on and I buy my labels via Amazon Buy Shipping.
I have noticed if I buy my labels before 3pm then the service Amazon defaults to is now RM48 for Two Day and RM24 for One Day - not even the tracked service. However, its a bit hit and miss is I buy labels after 3pm what service is allocated.
Now all my parcels are not actually collected until 5pm so matter when I bought the label - so in reality it makes no difference to the delivery speed.
As Buy Shipping guarantees me no metric hit for late delivery I now just accept the service whatever Amazon says I should use. I therefore recalculated my shipping costs based on using Tracked48 and Tracked24 for Two Day and One Day delivery (instead of Tracked24 and SD) and send using the service Amazon tells me should be used. So I am covered if Amazon decide I should send Tracked24 and not RM24 for example.
By accepting the service Amazon says I should use, this saves me having to go through all my orders and adjusting the service when I am buying labels. If delivery timescale is not met I am covered anyway. The only thing I do check is that sometimes Amazon will attempt to give me a Hermes/Evri label instead of a RM label (presumably cus they think RM cannot fulfil the delivery promise). When that happens I dont buy label from Amazon but push it through Click&Drop instead. Usually the delivery promise is met anyway and still no metric hit. The rare one pushed through C&D that does not meet the delivery promise I can take the metric hit.

At the risk of being a little bit controversial, I have been experimenting by using CRL services for premium shipping since Amazon started recommending it as a service on the buy shipping tool.
I have 1 day and 2 day shipping options. For 2 day, I am sending on 24 CRL. For 1 day shipping, I started to use APC who do me a great rate for mail pack. Their services are overnight.
If it is going to highlands, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man etc I just use CRL 24 for 1 day deliverers as they don’t seem to fair any better than using a tracked or guaranteed service.
I don’t use special guaranteed services any more since Royal Mail failed a couple of deliveries and had a blase attitude saying to put in a claim to get my delivery back. No compensation offered unless they actually lose it. You also cannot get in touch with anyone at Royal Mail if it goes missing without being told to fill in a form and will get back to you in 15 days. The only thing Royal Mail have improved on is just adding a “sorry” to the start of each sentence.

Just a point to note with regards to receiving a premium 1 or 2 day shipping order to Northern Ireland.
In every instance, I would recommend using Special Delivery rather than Tracked 24/48.
I find many of my tracked 24/48’s taking longer to be received than the estimated delivery times on the order, pulling down my OTDR percentage.
I would also apply the same rule to any Scottish Highlands orders too.

Thank you all for your responses, it’s greatly appreciated.
Going forward, I will make some changes after the bank holiday weekend and monitor the outcome. I will use Tracked24 for both Next Day and Second Day orders, Special Delivery for Next Day orders in Northern Ireland, Highlands etc.
I will give an update on the outcome end of June, for anyone who may want to know the results.

Royal Mail 24 hours is what we use for 2 day premium delivery service. It is accepted by Amazon.

Hi, I am looking into offering next day for some of my items. So will use Special Delivery 1pm.
(Not until after the strikes!) So pricing it up etc …
My query is -
I Currently I use Tracked 24 or 48, Via click and drop, print label, bag items in relevant bags to be collected. Is this the same with Special?
When I offered it many years ago, it was before I used Click and Drop, I inputted everything on the OBA site, so I had to fill in the silver book and stick those labels on etc.
Do I just treat the service the same as Tracked and hand over in its own bag to collection postie?
