Uk Vat and Corrospondance address

90k threshold. Originally I thought I had a valid uk address to be vat free up until the threshold was reached. However, since I am using a PO Box address, I am unable to provide proof of being uk established for vat purposes (I am based in Ireland). This means I am a NETP. As a result, I have to pay HMRC the owed vat since beginning my seller journey on Amazon. My question is: will I need to provide proof of a physical address to register for Vat or will my virtual address registered with company house do?

This is a duplicate of your thread from yesterday., and technically against forum guidelines. You might get help if you tag in a forum mod eg. @Winston_Amazon @Julia_Amazon. I'm afraid I cannot help, but it does seem that Amazon do not like virtual addresses, but how that would work for VAT, I really do not know. Do you actually get correspondence etc to the virtual address ?

No need to apologise to me !! - just that forum mods will often close a duplicate thread, just so you know for the future. Sadly there are MANY threads that get no replies these days.

Trouble is JillB - many of us older sellers didnt have a lot of these problems when we started- easier verification process, no video requirements etc. Not many of us experienced these newish VAT requirements - and as for sellers asking about things to do with overseas accounts (shipping from Germany to UK for eg) and often posting in a different language.!!

OP - It may be that HMRC would be alright with a virtual address for registering but will Amazon? Will they re-check? Would it even matter once you are UK VAT registered - I dont know

Yep, you're absolutely right @Seller_k2X0L9mVRT0pW - and right about being an older seller too !! - was so much easier back in the day - I've been on here since 2006 !

If you are NETP, the threshold for VAT is zero. You are a NETP if you are not a resident in the U.K. or you do not operate the business (e.g. take and make deliveries, have meetings, store paperwork and accounts, etc.) within the U.K.

I am not sure, but you may be best changing your registration to your Ireland address. You may not have to be operating from the U.K. to register for VAT.

I am curious about any VAT you may have already paid, and may possibly be able to claim back to offset the VAT you owe on past sales to the U.K. once registered.

Where did you purchase the products? From Ireland, EU, U.K. or elsewhere. Was there VAT on the invoices or paid on import?

Do you sell directly from Ireland to the U.K. or via FBA in the U.K.? If FBA do you pay VAT via the couriers or other when the products are imported into the U.K.? If directly, Amazon requires that the customer should not pay any import duty or VAT, so are you pre-paying the VAT and sending DDP?
