Returnless Or Prepaid Returns Effective October 5 2021

Hi,

I self fulfil orders and I have received an email today claiming that returnless or free returns (for everything) is effective from October 5 2021. Has anyone else received this email? and am I correct in thinking (as we all predicted) that free returns charged to the seller is now going to apply to everything and not only apparel?. Or does all apply because I live in the Isle of Man in which case is unfair because we are within the British Isles and it’s still the same cost for the buyer to return.

Thank You in advance.

Regardless of whether the free returns are for everything or not, how on earth is it, that if you live in the UK, it’s unfair because your in a particular place?

It would make no difference whether your in London, Belfast or the Isle of Man, it’s still the UK.
RM provides services to these places.

Are you talking about the email from Germany and Spain about offering local returns, or have you received something different?

Edit- nevermind, the email just came through.

There is a serious possibility that whoever wrote/created/implemented this new policy thinks that the Isle of Man is a part of the UK, and would not require a separate, UK based address to avoid automatic returnless refunds.

I suggest doing what you can to make sure you know whether this new policy will actually affect you.

Hello,

Effective October 5, 2021, if you fulfill customer orders sold on Amazon.co.uk from outside the UK, we request that you offer either Returnless Refund <https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/G202174940> or provide a Domestic return option for items and orders under £20 (including VAT and shipping charges) as part of our Selling on Amazon Returns policy <https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/200708210>.

Where you have provided a return address in the UK, we will generate a prepaid return label (see Amazon Prepaid Return Label), <https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/202072200> which the customer can use to return the items. To set your UK default return address, access the Seller Account Information page, <https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/hz/sc/account-information> go to Settings > Account Info > Shipping and Returns Information section, click Return Address, and then provide with the appropriate address.

If you do not provide Amazon with a default return address in the UK for items and orders under £20, Amazon will automatically issue the customer a refund on your behalf where return requests fall within the scope of the Amazon Return policy, <https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=help_search_1-1?ie=UTF8&nodeId=201819200&qid=1589958582&sr=1-1> without requiring the customer to return the item to you (Returnless Refund).

This change will help to simplify and standardize the returns process for customers and sellers for low-cost items, where international labels are generally more expensive than the cost of the item. If you do not have a UK default return address, our International Returns provider on the Solution Provider Network <https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gspn> may be able to help. The above policy will also apply to Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it, and Amazon.es, for all items and orders under €25 (including VAT and shipping charges).

For more information on returns, go to the help pages below:

• Customer returns for international sales <https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/G201468550>

• Returnless Refunds <https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/G202174940>

• Prepaid returns for seller-fulfilled order <https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/202072200>

The isle of Man and the Channel Islands are probably included as although RM treats them as UK they are legally not being Crown Dependancies with their own Government. As such Tax rules etc are different as you are shipping across borders.

Also although RM treat them as UK no other courier company does and charges extra so if the item is not RM shippable it would cost the seller extra to send back.

I am based on the Isle of Wight and have received this and put it on the ‘Must read closer’ pile. I had assumed it was aimed at anyone based outside the UK and, as much as our local council would want it, we are still firmly based in the UK.

Have now tried to make sense of it and am close to deciding to cut loose from Amazon as can see them wanting to introduce this policy for all returns under £20. What does this say to Amazon’s customer base - order and get it free as far as I can see.

As Amazon seem to thrive on merchants base in China I am guessing it is aimed mostly at them at the moment but it certainly a red flag for anyone thinking of trading outside the UK (as I think it will be extended)

Have I read this wrong?

I don’t see any mention of free returns for UK sellers to UK buyers.

All it states is that, if selling to a country which is different to your own country for distribution/returns. Either provide a no return refunds OR provide a in country domestic address to return to.

Basically, it means the buyer doesn’t have to pay the high fee’s that come with returning international items. I understand why Amazon might do this for “low” value items.

What have I done? Make sure my items I list on other markets are just above the threshold.

To answer your question, it is applying to everybody, not just the Isle of Man.
Amazon policies are getting harder and harder for sellers to sell on but easier for buyers to buy on!
