The product performance/quality is not up to my expectations

If that reason for a free return isn’t a cheats charter then I don’t know what is :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: Especially given the completely unrealistic expectations a good few people seem to have.

I’d really love to see figues on just exactly how many people who return items to Amazon actually end up paying a fee to do so. I bet it’s pretty low as an overall %.

Maybe that’ll be the next big thing for Amazon Prime customers, free returns across the board. It feels like that’s what most people seem to get anyway, so might as well make the blinking thing official.

Rant over.

It is the “not up to MY expectations” that is incredible.
“MY expectations” covers anything and then some.

If you think Amazon is bad for easy returns you should try selling on Wish.

I’ve just had my first products checked for selling on wish and had a few orders in overnight. Checked the policy about dispatch expecting to do the usual royal Mail second class parcel post. but no.

I have to use a tracked service and add in the tracking number. If Wish are not notified of the first scan by the courier company in 5 days the customer gets their money back without even applying or it

Yes, means change of mind but that incurs cost so…I had one complaining about the fabric used to make a bag, not the same as other bags she had but as it was a fold over top bag rigid PVC canvas would not work.
Will treat it as change of mind, I cannot anticipate what is in a buyer’s mind and neither could the designer of this bag.

Returns only work like this on Amazon Europe. On Amazon USA, the sellers are allowed to charge a 50% restocking fee and deduct the cost of the return shipping label out of the refund.

The sellers are not required to refund according to the return reason selected by the buyer. They can inspect the item after they receive it back and issue a refund according to the condition of the item.
If the product is exactly as described in the listing, they can completely ignore the “Item not as described” return reason selected by the buyer and refund them less than half of the original order cost.

I wish the policy was the same as in the US…

You’re right that we’re not allowed to charge a restocking fee but we are allowed to do an adjustment fee based on condition for return. I had a customer return some deck lights (aluminium + glass). You have to unscrew the glass to remove the tab so they’ll start working and this customer had done this, screwed them back too tight and cracked the glass on all 4. Clearly left them outside as they returned filthy with rain spots also and returned them as “not as expected”.

This was a £50 order, I contacted the customer to inform them that as the item was not returned in the same condition and not faulty a full refund can’t be offered as they’re no longer sellable, so I offered 50% refund.

Customer of course wasn’t happy, contacted Amazon for an A-to-Z (under my instruction to do so) and placed one. I provided Amazon pictures of the return as we received it and explained the situation and the claim was closed in our favour, I then contacted the customer to re-offer my 50% refund which they then accepted.
