Gel Ball Blaster Toy Guns - listing removed

Hi Everyone

I have listed for a gel gun blaster which i created over 3-months ago which i had to jump through hoops to get reinstated as Amazon kept closing as it reassembled a firearm. Dont want to get too much in that much that chapter ended.

However, recently, when I created a shipping order, Amazon promptly removed my listing. After investigating the matter, they informed me that selling Absorbing water beads on Amazon is against their policy.

What confuses me is that there are hundreds of gel blaster guns being sold on Amazon, so I’m not sure why I am being specifically targeted.

I wanted to reach out to see if anyone else has faced a similar appeal process and could offer any guidance or advice.

Obvious question. Does it use Absorbing Water Beads?
If so, then it’s correct, it’s against policy.

And as a by the by, just because others have a listing of something, does not mean that it’s ok.

We don’t allow the listing or sale of non-compliant or prohibited products. In the interest of safety, the following are prohibited:

  • Expanding or absorbing water beads with reference to “child”, “children” or “kids”
  • Expanding or absorbing water beads with images of children playing with the product (see below)
  • Expanding or absorbing water beads marketed as a “toy” or for “sensory play”
  • Expanding or absorbing water beads in gl_toy

I’ll use the example I gave the other day, if I get caught dropping litter, a valid excuse is not “well others are dropping litter everywhere else”

Hi Both

thank you for your response.

The policy is fair but there are a number of key issue:

1.) Misguided Size Restriction: The policy cites the reason for restricting absorbing gel beads as their potential to grow up to 200 times their original size. However, it is important to note that this growth rate may apply to lower-quality products. Our product does not exceed 8mm.

2.) Legal Compliance: The selling of gel beads, when used as intended, is not against the law.

3.) Marketplace Consistency: given water gel beads are not against the law, if Amazon want to prohibit the sale of them on their platform then fair enough but there needs to be consistency. There are numerous products containing gel water beads on the Amazon platform, suggesting a precedent for their sale. The inconsistent enforcement of this policy creates confusion and unfairly disadvantages sellers who offer gel bead-related products. In the interest of fair competition and equitable treatment of sellers, it is crucial to establish marketplace consistency.

Whilst people often do feel targeted when theirs is the first listing of many to be pulled in what is just an amazon sweep of the catalogue, I do sometimes wonder when you’re selling against certain sellers in the cut throat world of alibaba and private labelling if it is actually competitors reporting

If not allowed on Amazon find somewhere else to sell them.
Although if safety is the issue you’ll struggle online.
