Coconut Charcoal Classified as HAZMAT
Hi All,
I would like to ask for professional help, we have listing on amazon of coconut shell Charcoal, this is a plant based product produced from Mature Coconut Shell, my listing is available since 2019, I sent recently to FBA new variations( package size ) suddenly, i found that FBA internal time put my listing under review for HAZMAT Goods, which is not true as there are 100 of the same products available on amazon identical to my products , these similar products are not classified as HAZMAT.
we have challenge that we are not able to communicate directly with the internal team, it’s clear ,they are missing knowledge about the product features by refusing to change their decision and moreover they don’t give documented response for their decision?
My question: how to raise formal compaint from this team? we are not able to communicate with Amazon management team even with phone , when we request call through seller support, call always disconnected…
I would like to request an independent company to review amazon decision is this possible?
we are the manufacture and our products never classified as Dangerous , how to challenge Amazon decisions.

Hang on, maybe I’m missing something here, but isn’t it just an alternative fuel? ie. it’s flammable!
Surely that makes it a hazardous material.
In any case, just because others are selling on Amazon, firstly, does not mean that they are doing so correctly and secondly, could be selling it under the Hazmat program.
What makes you think that they aren’t?
Just because something is actually Hazmat, does not mean that you can’t sell it.

You would need to get an SDS (Safety Data Sheet) from the manufacturers (UK/EU version and from 2015 or later). Charcoal powders can be self heating and/or the dust can be a respiratory irritant. Pellets should be non-hazardous for Hazmat as long as you provide the SDS. Pellets would also be combustible rather than flammable which would not count for HAZMAT. Only way to know for sure is with the SDS.

My Question: if we enroll to HAZMAT Programme that means we accepted that my products are Prohibited and classified as HAZMAT?

Did you supply an MSDS (from the manufacturers) which will help to remove the hazard classification.
There are UN numbers for many Coconut Products which is a flammable solid and mighty dangerous, so they are being safe in their appraisal. It will be down to YOU to prove its not.
Storage in a hot warehouse in the summer, or on aircraft for transportation is their concern.

as by Neil advise, I optioned to join the Hazmat Programme, however the issue now , they want to classify my products(coconut charcoal) as PROHIBITED HAZMAT which will be disposed and not returned to us, That’s Madness… we are in business from 2017, we are also the importer of these Goods which legally entered in the UK and accepted by Shipping line without any issue.
we have UPS as our courier and we ship all our products as charcoal Briquettes …
How to challenge this decision as they didn’t support their decision without any documents?

Amazon has the worst customer service for sellers, No one care man. small business will be difficult to survive on their platform, with big company we are just number , they did the money and no care anymore. Thanks for everyone advise , Amazon not for me
