Extended Producer Responsibility

Can anyone help . We are handmade on Amazon selling Invitations, Word Art & Business Stationery , On reading about Extended Producer Responsibility, it states (as least i think it means) we are responsible for that product right through its life cycle, so i am responsible for that product until the buyer decides to get rid of it, throw it away etc & i have to pay for this? I know this sounds as if i am thick , i may be , but according to the guidance i am not paying Amazon for this i am paying another company outside of Amazon, plus if i have to pay for the product wether it is invites, word art, or business stationery until the buyer gets rid of it, how will anyone know when the buyer gets rid of it?. Can anyone help me on this one as i haven't a scooby doo what it means . WE pulled out of selling in the EU when Germany brought this out.

Thanks in advance

Hello @Seller_xO8b4TMIEiBcj,

This is Sarah from Amazon.

While I may not be the best person to answer your questions directly, I'm bringing your topic to the attention of another thread where experienced sellers are discussing about it. They might have some valuable insights to share!

Regards,

Sarah.

I am just as confused and opened a similar thread as pointed out by Sarah

Basically the regulations are for waste disposal and recycling costs.

However, unless you are selling electronic or battery dependant items (for which yes I think you are responsible for the life cycle of the product) I think you have gotten a little confused. As a producer you are responsible for any and all packaging you supply the item in - and not (as far as I understand) the actual product itself.

This is my question on the other thread. The UK has implemented a similar law but it only effects companies with £1million revenue and I wanted to know if there was a similar threshold on the other EU countries as they all seem to have different rules and regulations rather than one standard set (unusual for countries in the EU).

Last time I looked into it I got the impression you have to apply for a license (at an approx cost of £80 per country per annum) where you estimated the plastic/paper/etc waste on your packaging then you were able to sell into those countries by giving Amazon your license number.

Of course I could be completely wrong. And although Amazon seems to have implemented a Pay On Behalf system for items going to the UK (so you pay a small fee per item), I cannot find a similar system for items being sent to the EU. I dont want to pay £80 per year per country when I do not sell enough to warrant that cost. I would pay a per item fee for a Pay On Behalf service as I could then add the extra cost into my price.

But I agree it is very confusing with each country adopting different rules it is now impossible for a small time seller who just wants to send the odd order to the EU.
