Individual listing or Group Of Products?
hi all,
I’m weighing up whether to group some products designs together or to list them as individual listings. Has anybody found one way benefits you more than the other?
It’s a personalised item with upto 10 different designs that can be personalised. So becomes tricky setting the listing up as I can only set up 5 surfaces on the customisation

Hi @Seller_q7FbH9ZtV1ReA,
Thanks for posting your inquiry. Here’s what you should consider when deciding between grouping your personalized products together versus creating separate listings:
Benefits of grouping products in Variations:
- Enhanced customer experience - Customers can compare and choose from different designs on a single product page
- Improved visibility - All variations collectively improve search ranking, and reviews for popular designs can help sell other designs
- Simplified inventory management - You can see all design options and stock levels in one place
- Better search results - Only one product appears in search results instead of cluttering with multiple similar listings
Key requirements for Variations:
For your personalized items to qualify as variations, they must follow the Variation Relationships path:
- Share the same product title, brand, and function
- Be functionally identical with differences only in specific attributes like design/pattern
- Use Amazon’s standard variation themes for your product category
Regarding your Customization limitation:
Since you mentioned being limited to 5 surfaces in Amazon’s customization tool but having up to 10 designs, you have a few options:
- Use the “surfaces” feature correctly - This is meant for different areas of the same product (like front/back of a t-shirt), not for different design options
- Consider the Form Experience - For complex customizations that are difficult to represent exactly, you can create forms offline and upload them as preview images
- Group similar designs - You could create variations for design categories and use the customization tool within each variation
Recommendation:
If your 10 designs are variations of the same functional product (same purpose, brand, and basic structure), group them as variations using design/pattern as the variation theme. This will provide better customer experience and improved visibility. However, if the designs represent fundamentally different products or functions, create separate listings.
To check if your category supports design variations, download your category’s product template and check the Valid Values tab for available variation themes.
I hope this information helps.
Regards,
- Manny

If you have a variant listing of 10 products and someone give you a rating on 1 of those products, the rating applies to the parent listing. So it's good in that sense.
