Why do all listings default to 'Express Delivery'? It's been like this for months now.
Hi everyone
I'm a small bookseller, a sole trader and a pensioner. For nearly three months now, every time I list a second-hand book for sale, the choice for 'Express Delivery - UK (Exp UK Domestic)' is ticked on and at the same time, greyed out, meaning it is the default and I can't change it. I then have to make sure that I tick 'Domestic Only (Std UK Domestic)'. It has happened a few times that I missed this step and I have sent books by first class post for customers and so far that's been OK. However, I worry if something goes wrong, my 'Health' will take a knock.
Now, on a book on which I have specifically marked as 'Domestic Only (Std UK Domestic)', a customer has ordered via Express Delivery, which I can't turn off. Again, all I can do is send the book by First Class Royal mail. The problem is that the order came late on Saturday afternoon, so there is no way I can get that book to the customer within 24 hrs. I may try to take it to the parcel box at the sorting office tomorrow, Sunday, but it likely wont arrive for the customer until Tuesday.
Does anyone know what to do about this? Two moderators were involved the last time myself and others raised this issue, but nothing came of it. Has anyone gotten any understanding or resolution of this that they can share? It seems to me as though it's an Amazon policy that somehow has just arrived from the blue. How have I missed it? Was it announced? Where can I read about it, so that I can prepare for such situations? At the moment, I'm selling 10-12 books in a week, although I know that will improve later in the year. It hardly seems worth having some kind professional account with Royal Mail or other couriers.
Any pointers would be very welcome.
Thanks.
Alan

Hi emjuk,
Are you on the Individual or Professional Selling Plan?
I'm on the latter Plan and haven't had the problem you describe...
So I'm information gathering about this problem

I am in exactly the same situation and have to remember to tick the Std UK Domestic box every time! My shipping settings specifically are set "NO" to Express delivery! This is certainly a blip in Amazon's system. I would suggest using Royal Mail Tracked 24 if you get another Express delivery sale.

Same for me! I posted in the other threads about this. Amazon have known about this problem since February but it still hasn’t been fixed. Any cds I listed before February are not effected but anything I edit suddenly defaults to express delivery. If I try and add a cd for sale express delivery is also added.

I have the same problem and have to remember to press domestic box.If you don’t your item appears as £4.48 extra. This happened once but the customer didn’t complain ( so far) and I sent it first the same day.At some stage someone is going to ask “ why am I paying £4.48 for ordinary delivery.I have to occasionally go through my inventory checking for the higher postage rate.

Hello, fellow bookseller!
If this issue happens only to the books listed recently, I would click on "edit", the last column of your listings.
When the page "edit" appears, I would click on "Merchant Shipping Group" and click the correct choice. If you're not sure, you should check your shipping settings on top right and control if they are what you wish. If not, modify them. I hope this will help.

Hello @Seller_6awJL0SOReDyy,
I'm Sarah with Amazon.
Indeed, this is an ongoing issue affecting several Sellers for some time now.
@Sakura_Amazon is gathering examples of Sellers impacted in this main thread .
The appropriate team is actively working on a resolution but, unfortunately, we don't have an update at this time.
Kind regards,
Sarah.
