refunds while customer still has item ?

I am confused. Well, its Amazon, so thats hardly surprising. A couple of weeks ago I sold a book to a commercial setup that I have sold to before. A few days ago i got a notification that it was ordered by mistake' ( ie they found a cheaper copy ) and have asked for a refund. Fair enough, thats the law. So I look at Amazons policies which says dont initiate the refund until you have the item back. Then today I get the notification that the refund has been given. I have seen or heard nothing about the £50 book. So what gives ?. Amazon violates its own policies and I have neither book or money ?

Was it a refund at first scan ? - so it maybe is on the way back to you.....but technically if it was a 'mistake' then they should be responsible for the cost of the return postage.

Keep an eye on the returns. It normally issues this when it is on its way back to you so don't fret. If the book does not come back to you in the codition you can go back in and then claim against the return of the item or make deductions or file a safe-T claim.

If you open a SAFE-T claim stating that Amazon have refunded and the item has not been returned you will be told to wait 15 days for the item to be returned and then you can reopen the claim. In my experience it is 50/50 as to if you get the item back but to date Amazon have refunded my account when the item has not been sent back, its a pain but it seems to work. The real pain is if the carrier lose the parcel....that is a whole new can of worms!!

If you go to your "manage returns" tab and then find the order and click on "View more details"

The first information is Label Details.

This will show you the return tracking number and courier used for the return label.

Check the tracking number on the carriers website and this will then show you if it has had it's first scan, and if it says "refund on first scan"

You can also check in your payments tab "transaction view" which will show you if a label has been charged to this order number, if there is a charge there for the order... it has received its first scan.

It appears that Amazon's emails are 1-3 days behind, so something you received a charge for a refund on, might take a few days before Amazon supply you with the information by email.... which is a major pain !!

Hello! @wobble121

This is Roberto. Thank you for using the forums, as mentioned by @Seller_ZVAz3d5lZuGid it sounds like this was a refund at first scan.

If this is the case and the refund was initiated by Amazon, you should be able to raise a SAFE-T claim for the order in question. Make sure you document the condition of the item upon receipt.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Regards.

Roberto
