Brand new websites will take a while to establish themselves on the internet and especially through search engines. Many people, like ourselves find having your own website a huge benefit as you do not have to pay high fees etc.
Amazon have the reach of millions of people, so you are really paying for that benefit and we sell much more than our website especially through FBA as people like the convenience of getting items quickly and we like it as we don't have to pack items when large volumes of orders come in.
I would say there is no harm in having your own website along side selling on market places.

Of course it is if you can get the sales, you will have higher profit margins than amazon, you can maby put some of the money you save on fee's into ads. Im no expert but it is certainly worth sellling on your own website, if you can build your own website up to some regular sales then perfect, because on Amazon they own all the chips, if they dont want you here your gone. Your own website you are in control. It's worth having fingers in all pies, amazon / etsy / ebay / own website / facebook page etc
