Issue with listing branded products

Hi,

recently amazon are not allowing us to create new listings for certain brands using GS1 barcodes. They are officially licensed products bought directly from either the brand owner or their distributors. When typing the brand name in the brand name tab tab and entering the barcodes on the products the message comes up:

‘You are using UPCs, EANs, ISBNs, ASINs, or JAN codes that do not match the products you are trying to list. If you believe you have reached this message in error, please contact Seller Support.’

It is definitely to do with the connection between the brand name in the brand tab as when i change the brand name to something else it allows you to list it. However i want the correct brand name showing for obvious reasons.

I was just wondering if anybody else has had this issue and how did they get it solved. Just wanted to ask before I approach the brand owners themselves so i could maybe give them the solution. Somebody mentioned to me that I need to get a letter from the brand owners stating that we are authorised to sell these brands and give it to Seller performance team’ so they can enable our account to list under the brands. not sure if that is correct though?

many thanks in advance.

you should use the EAN for the product not your own GS1 ones.

Claire is correct you cannot use generic bar codes for Branded products, Amazon systems now check and have checked for some time that bar codes being used match the manufacturers brand bar code prefix, that will have unique EAN/GTIN bar codes for each product.

You should be listing your products against the same EAN/GTIN number listed on the Branded Retail product barcode.

Listing Branded Products That Aren’t Your Brand

If you’re listing a branded product, that is NOT your brand, then you should be using the barcode supplied by the manufacturer.

If you try to put your own UPC on someone else’s product, that is against Amazon policy. Your listing and likely your seller account will be shut down. You may even hear from the brand owner’s lawyers. Just don’t do it.

what do you do if say for example you are selling 6 packs of Duracell batteries? So they are genuine branded products they have a barcode relating to one pack so what do you do?

Variation policy

The following prohibited practices are misuses of variations (also known as parent-child relationships). They create a negative customer experience and can result in your ASIN creation or selling privileges being temporarily or permanently removed:

Adding incorrect child variations that are not true variations of the parent product. This includes but is not limited to:
Adding incorrect variation to ASINs you created.
Adding products that are fundamentally different from the parent ASIN.
Adding products that are newer versions or models of the parent ASIN.

Changing the parent product's detail page so that it does not match the children.
Adding multi-pack variations that aren't manufacturer-created to an already existing parent.
If you have created a multi-pack listing that is not directly sold by the manufacturer, you must match your listing to an identical multi-pack product detail page. If an identical multi-pack detail page does not exist, you must create a new product detail page with its own unique UPC.
Adding multi-pack children by bundling two or more of the same manufacturer products, that is, bundling two three-packs to create a package quantity of six. Multi-pack children must be packaged by the manufacturer. If a customer wants to buy two or more of the same product, they can select that quantity for purchase.
