The Duplicates Thread

Creating this in order not to muddy the JB World Thread

I, for one, do not understand how to resolve the duplicate showing in my inventory - I can’t see any button to click that tells Amazon the item is not a duplicate. Neither can I click on the ‘duplicate’ to see the product detail.

You might well be right - I notice that even new copies from Book Depository (owned by Amazon) do not show in initial search results if Amazon itself hasn’t got any stock.

Having said that, the fake ‘new’ listings from the rogue dropshippers do still seem to fool the search engine into giving them a prominence in results that they don’t deserve.

Good idea. I suspect that the items have already been merged, (could be wrong, but as there’s been no explanation given we have to guess  ) and that you’d need to contact SS to unmerge them if you think they’re wrong. That would also explain why there’s no link to the duplicate, it’s already been merged.

I’ll paste what I said in that thread about the issue here,

I only appear to have one in my inventory, when I’m sure there must be many more. I suspect these are items that have already been merged, and the new “Potential Duplicates” button is a way of alerting sellers after the fact, whereas previously they were moved to the top of one’s inventory, easy to miss unless you select “All Inventory” rather than just Active.

I’m wondering if Amazon had a lot of complaints when sellers sold items they never had due to erroneous catalogue merges.

Is there not a “review duplicate” button on the left of the inventory column when you are looking at the list of potential duplicates?

00

Seller_YSVJTvJFHSin4

I too will paste what I wrote on the other thread here, and keep the discussion here.

When I click that link it shows only four inventory items, when we have more items that should qualify as duplicates if these are.

And here’s another irony.

One of the “duplicates” is a book that we have on KDP, printed and sold by Amazon. We also have our own separately printed copies of the book for sale on the listing, fulfilled by us. And hey ho, there is Excellent_UK book, the only other “seller”, hoping that someone will be foolish enough to buy the book from them at three times the price, and there, I assume, because they cannot create a second fake listing of a KDP title.

{Edit: it later struck me that what happened was that they had tried to create a separate page, that this is what raised the “duplicate” flag, and Amazon automatically merged their bogus listing with ours. If this is so it is very good news, but it should have been flagged on hundreds of items if so, and not just one.]

We have marked it as not a duplicate and await the result.

The “Potential Duplicates” link disappears when you have reviewed them all and presumably reappears only when new ones are flagged.

To add further to the confusion, if we click on the “suppressed” link to the left of the duplicates link, one inventory title comes up - a book we sold in December 2017 and do not have listed (though it’s inactive in the inventory at zero quantity).

I’m a bit slow on the uptake with all this duplicate business. But could anyone explain this to me: B00008N701 There are two DVD options, but both have the same release date, one option is more expensive and sellers include JB World…but why is Amazon also selling on both options? Sorry if I’m being stupid, but in the past I’ve never given duplicates a thought, it’s only recently through this forum that I’ve become aware of all the complications and shenanigans!

As for Paul’s modified ‘extra bit’ I received different repsonses for the different ASINs.
the first (rather long-winded) one:

_I hope my email finds you in the best of health and cheerful spirits. Honestly, I see your issue and find it to be valid and clear and also gives me an indication of your business ethics and competitiveness. _

_I understand that you are reporting against the Other seller, as you believe the seller is involved in listing abuse by creating duplicate Detail pages that do not exactly match their items. Please allow me to address your concern. _

_Please note that if you believe that any seller is not genuine and is involved in a listing abuse with the product, you can report against the seller by logging into your selling account and following the steps below. _

* Login to your selling account and click on the link:
https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/cu/contact-us?ref=ag_contactus_shel_myimain&;;;;;; _

_* Click on Selling on Amazon and then click “My issue isn’t listed”. Attached a screen-shot for assistance * Click “Other issue” and click 'Report a violation" * Click on “Report a violation” and provide the information. _

_I have attached a screen-shot for assistance The above process will help you in reporting the sellers, and then the concerned team can take action as per their policy. _

_** You can also directly write to the concerned team on the email address: notice@amazon.co.uk and report against the seller. _

_Kindly be informed that Seller Support does not have any access or authority to take action against any sellers. For reporting any fraudulent sellers, you need to contact the team by following the above process or directly write an email to the above-mentioned email address. I have also attached a screen-shot for your reference. Please ensure you check below my signature on this e-mail to view the attachments. _

Now in this case, I have gone ahead and merged all the ASIN(s) to the ASIN: B0000xxxx. But in order to avoid the sellers from creating more fake detail pages, I would advice you to report the sellers and get the detail page verified properly.

_I hope the information helps to resolve your concern. If you still feel that you have any further query regarding the same, please feel free to get back to me by reopening this case, I would be more than happy to help you and get your issue resolved. _

Once we receive above information we will investigate this further and take appropriate action. We will then use the information provided to drive your issue to resolution. I am sorry for making you take an additional step regarding this issue, it is just to ensure we provide you a clear resolution to avoid any discrepancy. Your understanding and co-operation on this issue is appreciated.

I asume that’s a script but it does indicate that Amazon are at least aware of the issue.

The second (more pithy) response:

_ _
Dear Seller,

Greetings from Amazon Seller Support. I hope this email find you well.

_My name is A----- and I will be assisting you with your query. _

I have just received your case and I understand you wish to merge ASIN: B00XXXXX to ASIN B000YYYYY.

As per your request I have gone ahead and successfully merged ASIN: B00XXXXX to ASIN B000YYYYY.

You can confirm the same from the link below:

I have also reported the sellers to seller performance team and you can also report to them at the following email address:

Our friends JBW and Excellent are currently flooding the catalogue with duplicate CDs and DVDs.
Presumably they add them using bogus EANs?

Whatever underhand methods they are using, it suggests Amazon’s monitoring system is far too easily bypassed.

Seller_ugiIC6Uads3Rv

Just bumping this up, because as KMDP says, we should maybe keep merge and duplicates issues on this thread and leave the JBW thread about feedback manipulation.

Fortune raised the issue of DVD merges, does anyone have any thoughts? I know I’ve done a few CD merges, but that’s a heck of a lot harder than books, because there seem to be so many reissues etc. Anybody any pointers (other than the obvious “if x, y or z is on it, it’s a fake”)?

Our friends JBW and Excellent are currently flooding the catalogue with duplicate CDs and DVDs.
Presumably they add them using bogus EANs?

Whatever underhand methods they are using, it suggests Amazon’s monitoring system is far too easily bypassed.
