The Duplicates Thread

Creating this in order not to muddy the JB World Thread

I, for one, do not understand how to resolve the duplicate showing in my inventory - I can’t see any button to click that tells Amazon the item is not a duplicate. Neither can I click on the ‘duplicate’ to see the product detail.

You might well be right - I notice that even new copies from Book Depository (owned by Amazon) do not show in initial search results if Amazon itself hasn’t got any stock.

Having said that, the fake ‘new’ listings from the rogue dropshippers do still seem to fool the search engine into giving them a prominence in results that they don’t deserve.

By the way, and as an experiment, I used the ‘Would you like to tell us about a lower price’ link below the Product details on the duplicate ASIN.

I gave them the URL of the genuine original Amazon ASIN!

I might try that a bit more often - it’s a lot quicker than requesting merges or Product updates, if nothing else!

I just noticed this feedback on one of the big dropshippers (currently dormant):

4 out of 5 stars
Info in the dispatch states that we were charged £3.04 plus shipping £2.15 = £5.19, so why did Amazon charge me £14.01 ?
By Christopher on 04 December 2019.

I’m not sure why that buyer gave a ‘4’, but it gives you an idea of their profit margin…for virtually zero outlay.

I’m starting to think there’s someone in the merge team who’s trolling me. I’ve requested two merges today, both being refused for an escalating scale of ludicrous reasons. After the last refusal I thought “I’d better double check in case I’ve actually got this wrong.”

Both already been done…

Look everyone:

’“There is no place for price gouging on Amazon,” a spokeswoman told Reuters,’

Hooray, all those fake, ridiculously overpriced duplicates are going to be removed!

:clinking_glasses::champagne::tada:

There seem to be quite a few anomalies with Amazon search at the moment - more than usual, that is.

I was checking some of my book stock using the barcode scanner on the Amazon buyer app last night and rather than bringing up the exact match - as you would expect - it was sometimes acting as if I’d typed in the title/author and was doing its annoying trick of showing me something other than what I’d searched for.

This might be because there were no new copies on many of the books I checked.

At the moment, Amazon search results are not showing any used copies on the initial search results page unless new coopies are also available.

I’'m not sure if this is an accidental[?] by-product of the coronavirus anti-gouging measures Amazon recently introduced.

As I said earlier, whatever the reason, it appears to be a gift to the dodgy dropshippers, many of whom routinely list stupidly overpriced ‘new’ copies to make their non-existent '‘used’ copies seem cheap[er]. Needless to say, these listings are based around bogus duplicate ASINs.

So many problems with the BMVD catalogue can be traced back to these bogus duplicate dropshippers, and still Amazon does nothing to curb their despicable behaviour…even during this time of crisis when the sort of price gouging they engage in is supposedly forbidden. :frowning:

It appears to me to be more to do with whether or not Amazon themselves are listing new copies, rather than just the presence of new copies in general. I may be wrong though. Rather unfair on the second-hand sellers either way.
