Confused by return

I had a return request the other day the first for me under Amazon pre approved returns. I thought this meant Amazon automatically approved the request and allowed the buyer to print a pre paid label and that then I would issue the refund once the item had arrived back to me. (I’m a small seller and don’t get many returns, this is the first for me using the newer system)

But I now see that the label is more expensive then the original cost I paid for shipping and that Amazon has this morning refunded the customer minus the return label which is over £3 when I paid just under £2? I haven’t even received the item back yet.

From reading the help pages I can see it’s a refund after the first scan but can’t see that the buyer understands the cost of the label has been deducted? Will I still need to refund this?

Also is it possible for me to change the price of the return label in the future?

This is how it works now, if Amazon issue a prepaid label on a change of mind return the cost is deducted from the refund and the refund is issued on first scan of the return label. If no prepaid label is generated by Amazon then the customer would organise and pay for the return and you would issue the refund once you have received the item.

When you say you paid just under £2 for shipping do you mean the outgoing shipping to the customer?

Returns are Tracked, so costs more.

If not faulty, then the cost of the RM return, can be deducted from the refund, if a 1st Scan refund, then file a Safe-T Claim, and explain briefly, using words 5 year olds understand, why you need to be reimbursed, eg This was a Buyer Remorse return as the Buyer showed in the RMA Return reason saying: ..(quote exact reason the Buyer gave).. so the return postage cost (Amazon provided return postage label) should have been deducted from the Buyers refund (First Scan refund). As not deducted, Safe-T Claim baing raised.

Or something similar.
