Refund over late delivery?

The customer has bought a product, which was delivered to them 4 days late. However, we dispatched the item on time. The customer received the product, yet still wants a refund. I am thinking that why should we refund it. What would others do?

Up to you really.

You can still get them to open a return request which is your right - but you would be liable for the return costs. You could agree a partial refund with the customer.

Us personally - we'd advise them to return the product for a full refund if they no longer require it (though it will depend on the item value)

For us it depends if they paid for premium delivery or not.

We won't refund the item, but if they paid for premium delivery, we will refund the delivery cost that they paid for.

If they haven't paid for premium delivery, then it has been sent out as standard 2nd class. We won't refund the item and then advise that the postage date range is advised by Royal Mail as an estimate of which, we have no control over whether they deliver within that estimate or not.

If they choose to return it, then they get refund at first scan by Amazon. Some have chosen to "return" thinking that they will get refunded straight away. Then, when they find out they actually have to post it or have it collected, they don't complete that stage and the return eventually disappears with no refund issued to them.

I'd be tempted to say you'd happily refund it when they return it to you but that you'll pay the delivery charge.
