UPS return/inbound label cost is outrageous compared to outbround shipping label

Good evening, this is a point of confusion, and frustration, which is the ridiculous cost of inbound UPS auto generated labels... We ship fabric out, and typically a label cost around 15-20$ for 2 day shipping via Fedex, or even sometimes UPS...

BUT, the inbound labels auto generated by Amazon via UPS, are usually ALWAYS $40 each, and it takes up to a week or more to get the package back.. WHY???? what is the deal with this insane cost compared to shipping outbound for 2nd day at HALF THE COST... this is absurd and amazon is profiting off return label pricing as i have spoken to our UPS rep (we ship thousands of packages a month via UPS) and he stated this is an AMAZON problem and agrees the labels are over priced and marked up.

Example:

Shipping label purchase

Claims Protected

OTDR Protected

Package type: Package

Dimensions (LWH): 50.0 x 3.0 x 3.0 IN

Package weight: 6.0 LB 0.0 OZ

Shipping Label : $16.40

Total shipping cost :$16.40

11/21/2024 Shipping services purchased through Amazon 112-6699169-4513839

Billing for return postage -$40.68

THE COST OF THIS ITEM WAS 32$ TOTAL.. WE PAID 16$ TO SHIP IT OUT AND $40 TO BRING IT BACK.. THUS WE ARE OUT $56 on a pointless return with a bogus return reason..... this is THEFT

Even we have a return on a 6oz package of sample swatches, which ships for $5 or less via USPS, the return label is $20!!!!!!

I want an explanation, as this is simply theft and UPS agrees.

what gives?

You think that's bad? I have items that cost me $12.25 to ship ($13 right now due to the seasonal surcharges), and if a buyer chooses to return it with the Amazon prepaid UPS label the return label is around $250-$300.

Hello @Seller_KcEtz9Bkb8qhY

Prepaid returns for seller-fulfilled orders

We use USPS and UPS for our return shipping. Each carrier uses their own methodology to calculate the return shipping cost.

UPS and USPS provide all return shipping for seller-fulfilled orders through Buy Shipping services. USPS First Class mail ships most items under 1 lb and UPS Ground ships items from 1 to 150 lb.

If you are seeing higher-than-expected rates for UPS return shipment, you may be located in a Zip Code subject to UPS area surcharges. You can read more about those here:

UPS Remote Area Surcharges and Prepaid Return Labels

You can review the Request exemption from prepaid returns for seller-fulfilled orders help page to determine if your shipments may qualify to be exempted from our prepaid label program.

KJ, you are simply regurgitating information that we have all read 100x, and it does not help or solve anything..

That said, We are located in CHICAGO, not a remote area... and the "methodology" they use is bogus... its theft. Why on gods green earth would their methodology allow a 6oz package be scanned in weighing 1-5lb and return label costing 5x the cost of the actual item, not to mention, the outbound shipping we eat too... are you trying to put people out of business? because this is how you do it , KJ.

Hello @Seller_KcEtz9Bkb8qhY. Are you using Amazon Buy shipping for your outbound shipping labels? If not, we may not have the necessary information in regards to product dimensions or weight.

I recommend reviewing the information in this announcement about a new feature that allows sellers to update/enter product dimensions and weight for Amazon prepaid return labels : New feature to update product dimensions and weight for return labels.

If you believe that you were not charged accurate return shipping rates, you can open a SAFE-T Claim to request reimbursement.

Thanks for the reply K|J,

Of course we are using buy shipping,, 100% BUY SHIPPING through amazon.

Opening a Safe-T claim for hundreds of already issues refunds, is a waste of my time, and should not be necessary, as the over charging is blatant... If a outbound 2 day shipping label for a 10LB 56'inch box is only 18$, WHY IS THE RETURN 5-7 DAYS AND $40+

ALSO, in regards to the "product dimensions and weight", it only offers one box for one SKU, we have 900 SKU's.. again.. useless.

I took a look at Order ID: 112-6699169-4513839 which you called out in your original post.

I do not see that Amazon Buy Shipping was used for that outbound shipment. Do you believe that is incorrect, and if not, can you share any order for that ASIN where you are sure outbound Buy Shipping was used?

I also checked the ASIN shipped for that order. I did not see package dimensions associated with the ASIN, only the full, unpackaged size for the item.

My suggestion is still to update/enter product dimensions and weight for Amazon prepaid return labels for this or any ASINs you are concerned about.
