How does the buy box work?
Hi,
So im new here and currently doing research for products to sell here. And im currently using the Jungle Scout extension to identify products and i can sell. However im just curious about how you get the buy box, as far as im aware there isnt a certain way but was just wondering for example if a product has 5 sellers for all around the same price using FBA then the product gets 100 sales a month who do these sales go to? Does the buy box rotate? Does it stay as one person till they run out of stock? Any help would be greatly appreciated as i think it would be helpful to me to understand this before i decide what i want to sell.
Thanks

Also if amazon is selling a product do i stand a chance of competing with them? as a few items i want to sell amazon have the buy box and there are no other sellers.

Nobody really knows the formula, not even Amazon staff, however for new sellers I believe you cannot get the buy box for something like 90 days whilst your account settles in, and you start to build a bit of history. This may be different for FBA, but others will comment on this.
If Amazon are on the listings then it is very unlikely you will win the buy box, we compete against Amazon on hundreds of listings, but it is very rare we get the buy box on these, although not impossible. Just remember before purchasing that if you go onto the listing and reduce the price to try and beat Amazon, they will just come back and undercut you to the point where you would lose money.
My advice would be to find yourself a niche product where Amazon is not your competition, and where you do not have dozens of other sellers all racing each other to the bottom.
Spend some time going though Seller University to make sure you know how Amazon works, and do not get caught out as they are very strict on compliance, and will not think twice about suspending your account.
