Another Hoop to Jump Through When Creating a Listing for a Book Not IN AZ's Catalogue

Went to create a listing for a book not in the catalogue this morning only to discover all has changed; so far so Amazon.

Discovered a mandatory field that wasn't there before: Amazon Listbook Code. Not a clue what this was. Thankfully Google was my friend and I discovered what a BISAC Code was.

This constant tinkering for no apparent reason has become a pain.

I totally agree with you. I am now finding it impossible to list a simple book or comic. It would be faster to write out War and Peace than it now is to list a simple comic on Amazon.. They must be insane to keep "improving" things that work perfectly.

If your adding new titles to the Amazon catalogue, try suggesting the code yourself for the book.

Pain I know, but if you know the subject matter, then find the relevant code for this on the BISAC website.

If your adding titles already on the Amazon system, some people have mentioned uk.bookshop.org/. Just banged in a random ISBN and it does have the BISAC category mentioned, so there is another one.

On a side note, looks like the BISAC codes, were updated this year (2024) sometime, so probably best to double check alongside bookshop.org for ASINS already in the Amazon catalogue.

Good luck

I tried to find a 1966 book.in the catalogue. I looked by title , author , sub title -etc. The only listing was a modern copy -- i tried the "other formats or edition-- still nothing.

I then spent 30 minutes doing a new listing. The BISAC code thing seems to be yet another completely un-necessary hurdle. I fiiled everything in including height, length and width of the book (another completely un-necessary thing) and got right to the end when I had a message saying they had found a match!!! To rub salt in the wound I had to put all the details in again. Then something strange happened. The condition box (New , Good etc) was greyed out. This is a mandatory field so I assumed it would not let me continue - but I was wrong. I checked about an hour later and the book was in my inventory marked something like "listing incomplete" . I edited it and all was ok.

I then listed the same book on another well known site. This took about 3 minutes with none of the problems that Amazon cause.
