Alcohol Premises License

Hi

After 2 months and approx 130 messages and phone calls I am still stuck

I want to sell alcohol on Amazon.

I already have a personal license in place and according to Amazon's policy I need to have a premises license to.

I will never handle the alcohol as once it is made by the manufacturer, it will be sent straight to an Amazon FBA warehouse. I spoke with my local council and they informed me that a license is only needed from the place of dispatch. This means that I should be able to use my manufacturer premises license. I have uploaded this only to be rejected

Any ideas on what to do here?

Its worse than Dantes version of hell trying to deal with the so called support....... Horrendous and totally unhelpful

Sorry to rant but totally flumoxed

And there is no way to complain or get any help

Thanks

It doesn't matter. A premises licence covers the sale by retail of alcohol.

No matter if you are doing FBA or FBM - you are the seller. It would be your business address on the invoice. As such, amazon need a premises licence for your place of business. If it was place of dispatch, it wouldn't be your manufacturer anyway - it would be the amazon warehouse.

Also, I would assume there is nothing on the premises licence that links to your amazon business (ie you as a personal licence holder aren't mentioned on your manufacturers premises licence). So how are amazon to know the manufactuer is anything to do with you?

Hello @Seller_jRgMKq6eAA9sg,

This is Sakura from Amazon. Welcome to the Seller Forums.

Unfortunately, in this case, I can only send the Help Page information regarding the documents that would be required from you if you want to sell alcohol:

Requirements for amazon.co.uk Local:

  • Personal and premises alcohol license
  • VAT information
  • Evidence of excise duty paid

You can find this information here: Beer, Wine & Spirits >Document requirements

Without these documents, it would not be possible to get approval.

@Seller_ZJhFeE3tNKzfh, thank you for elaborating on this topic.

Regards,

Sakura

Once you have received your Personal license, that means that you can sell alcohol for any business that has a premises license. This means that you have to apply for a premises license where you wish to run your alcohol business from, regardless if you will store alcohol there or not.

You cant send the premises license for the brewery as your not selling the alcohol for them, your selling it for your own business.

Unfortunately, this does mean that you will need to apply to your local council for an off license, however the rules and checks are different as your applying for an online business (retail sales for consumption off the premises rather than an on license where people drink at your premises)

You should have learnt all this during your BIIAB course as it goes into detail about premises licenses, Temporary Events Notices and online retail sales.

This process is horrible and we have gone through this with a few of the brands we work with in this space on Amazon.

The only way to get this over the line without a Premises Licence is to have inside support from Amazon which nearly impossible unless you know someone on the inside.

Seller support is not the right channel to get this over the line as it needs to be escalated from "the inside"

These guys can help get it over the line - thinkhighlands
